District speakers compete

CASSTOWN — Recently 5 members of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter competed in the District 5 Public Speaking competition held at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center in Montgomery County.

Michael Bair competed in the FFA Creed Speaking Career Development Event. He memorized, recited, and answered questions on the FFA Creed. He earned a Bronze rating and placed eighth.

Blaine Brokschmidt competed in the Advanced FFA Creed Speaking Contest. He recited the FFA Creed and answered questions. He earned a Gold Rating and placed fifth overall.

Abigail Koontz earned a silver rating and placed seventh in the Beginning Prepared Speaking Event for her speech on “Practices of the Horse Industry.” She wrote, presented and answered questions on the horse industry.

Emily Thimmes competed in the Advanced Prepared Speaking Event for her speech on urban farming. She researched, wrote, and presented her speech concerning raising food within cities. She earned a gold rating.

Keagan Carsey competed in the Extemporaneous Speaking Event. He placed sixth and earned a silver rating. He presented a speech on an agriculture topic and answered questions after only 30 minutes of preparation.
