WEST MILTON — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office charged a 16-year-old female from Ludlow Falls with drug possession and she was suspended from Milton-Union High School on Tuesday.

The teen allegedly hid an ounce of marijuana in the ceiling tiles in the girls’ locker room. A student showed a guidance counselor a SnapChat message from the girl, who announced, “Someone tried to be a snitch but they found nothing in my locker.”

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer and school staff noticed a ceiling tile out of place in the girls’ locker room. Officials moved the tile and a box wrapped in zebra print fell to the floor, according to reports. Inside the box was a Valentine made out to a male subject, candy and an ounce of marijuana in a Zip-Loc bag.

The student admitted the box was hers. She said she climbed on top of the lockers to hide the gift early in the morning. The male subject was also questioned. He stated people kept telling him, “He is going to love his Valentine’s present,” and that his girlfriend only knew he liked marijuana and the San Francisco 49ers.

The teen said she got the marijuana from a friend in Bellbrook and she spent $350 on it. The School Resource Officer dropped the juvenile off at her home and planned to meet with her parents Wednesday morning to speak to them. The marijuana and Valentine’s card were booked into the sheriff’s office property room as evidence.

Milton-Union Exempted Village Superintendent Brad Ritchey said the district takes its students’ safety seriously and the district does not tolerate drugs on its campus.

“We will continue to provide a safe environment for our students,” Ritchey said Wednesday. “We take our students’ safety very seriously.”

Ritchey said the incident was “isolated” and the administration will follow due process for the student involved in the matter.
