LUDLOW FALLS — A Ludlow Falls business is a total loss following a late-night blaze.
Firefighters responded to Stull Woodworks Inc. at 7925 Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A worker from Clopay in Troy was on his way home from work when he spotted a glow in the sky. He relayed the information to a passing Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who went to the scene and observed a sawdust pile on fire outside the building, according to reports.
The Pleasant Hill Fire Department was dispatched, but the fire spread quickly and by the time the first fire units arrived, the fire had spread to the building. The fire continued to spread and eventually enveloped the entire structure.
Pleasant Hill Fire Department Captain Adam Marchal said the building and its contents are a complete loss, and the insurance company was expected Thursday to provide an estimate of loss.
In addition to Pleasant Hill, mutual aide was supplied by Laura, Ludlow Falls, Covington, West Milton, Concord Township, Troy and Bradford. Pleasant Hill Rescue Squad was also dispatched to the scene for support.
No firefighters were injured in fighting the blaze, and there were no occupants in the building at the time the fire started. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to investigate the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation, Marchal said.
Most fire units were released from the scene by 2:45 a.m., while firefighters from Pleasant Hill remained on the scene until nearly 5 a.m., according to Marchal.
According to the business’ website, the company began in 1992 and offers millwork and fine woodworking for residential and commercial customers, along with restoration and carving projects.
