TROY — OSU Extension will be hosting two farmland leasing workshops on Oct. 17 specifically geared toward landowners. The workshop will cover leasing options, such as flex leases and cash rent, factors affecting options and rates, evaluating Ohio cash rent surveys, legal issues, practices and tips for developing a written lease.
“Farm leases can be confusing for many landowners who may not follow the markets. With the fluctuation of prices of crops, landlords and tenants need to make certain they are receiving a fair price,” said presenter Amanda Bennett, OSU Extension educator in Miami County.
“Our data has shown there is great variability in price within counties and even within townships. This variability can depend on many factors that landowners might not consider,” said workshop presenter Suzanne Mills-Wasniak, OSU Extension educator in Montgomery County.
The first session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the extension meeting room at the Miami County Courthouse at 201 W. Main St in Troy. The evening program will run from 7-9 p.m. at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in the Carousel Room at 1001 S. Main St. in Dayton.
The cost for the workshop is $15 per person and $5 for additional family members and includes handouts and refreshments. Registration information can be found at go.osu.edu/leasing or by emailing [email protected] for a registration form. If you have questions, call either office at 937-440-3945 (Miami) or 937-224-9654 (Montgomery).
