Police respond to shots fired call

PIQUA — Piqua police responded to a call of shots fired at a subject at the Piqua Apostolic Temple, 830 Covington Ave. on Thursday.

Mike Kurtetman, as associated pastor was in a lift truck approximately 12 – 14 feet off the ground, changing a light bulb, when he said that he observed a juvenile male emerge from the area of the bike path and began firing at him.

Kurtetman said that the youth was armed with a rifle, he believes to be either an Air soft or BB rifle. The young man fired several shots before returning to the bike path and disappearing into a wooded area.

Piqua police officers and a K-9 unit from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office searched the area but were unable to locate the subject.

Kurtetman was not injured in the attack.
