PIQUA — Rick Hanes, superintendent of the Piqua City Schools district, will leave the post he has held for the past decade, effective July 31, to take a position with Edison State Community College.

The news of Hanes’ resignation was confirmed Thursday by Piqua City Schools Board of Education President Frank J. Patrizio.

Hanes came to the Piqua City School district in 2006, after serving as assistant superintendent for Tipp City Exempted Village Schools.

Prior to that, he served as principal of Smith Middle School in the Vandalia Butler district; as principal of Arcanum Elementary in the Arcanum Butler Local Schools district; and as a junior high science teacher in Tipp City.

Hanes holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s of education in administration from Wright State University, as well as a degree in administration from Miami University.
