MIAMI COUNTY — And just like that, summer was over.

For county athletes, anyway.

While it may seem as though the 2015-16 high school sports year just ended with the state track meet in June, the reality of the matter is a new year of high school sports begins Monday, as all fall sports are allowed to begin official supervised practices.

Of course, for the athletes themselves, it likely won’t seem like much of an adjustment, as for most of them, the high school sports “season” never ends, what with the vast array of camps, conditioning and unofficial practices and workouts they attend throughout the calendar year.

Monday, however, marks the first time coaches are allowed to officially work with fall athletes outside of the summer camp setting.

Here’s a look at the key dates to keep in mind for all nine varsity fall sports:

Football

The first day of coaching begins Monday. Practices will begin with players wearing helmets only and not engaging in full contact drills, with additional equipment and contact added throughout the preseason.

Teams are allowed to scrimmage between Aug. 9 and Aug. 20.

The regular season officially begins Aug. 22, a Monday, although most teams will open the regular season that Friday, Aug. 26. The regular season will run for 10 weeks, with the final regular season games to be played on Oct. 30.
