East, Russia, Versailles boys pick up wins

SIDNEY — Lehman and Lima Temple Christian battled throughout Friday night at Lehman, with Temple coming away with a 58-56 victory in Northwest Central Conference action.

The loss leaves the Cavs at 1-5 in the league and 2-14 overall with Bradford coming to the Lehman gym tonight.

The Cavs trailed 28-25 at the half, but cut the lead to one after three periods.

Ben Frantz tossed in 16 to lead the Cavaliers in scoring. Dylan Arnold, who was questionable because of an ankle injury, added 12 points and Preston Ridgers finished with 10.

East boys

top Newton

PLEASANT HILL — The Miami East boys basketball team stayed unbeaten in CCC play with a 59-51 win over Newton Friday night.

Brandon Mack led a balanced East attack with 16 points.

Ryan Haney scored 14, Damien Mackesy netted 11 and Logan West added 10.

Brock Jamison led Newton with 16, while Nick Honeycutt and Brady McBride both scored 12.

Buccs fall

NEW MADISON — The Covington boys basketball team lost to Tri-Village 78-46 Friday night in CCC action.

Jordan Maschino scored 17 points and Trevor Miller added 11.

Roaders fall

in CCC play

BRADFORD — The Bradford boys basketball team gave Tri-County North a battle Friday night.

The Railroaders lost 52-42 in CCC action.

Russia boys

top Houston

HOUSTON — Russia pulled away in the final period to hand Houston a 45-37 setback in SCL boys action Friday night,

The win gave Russia sole possession of second place in the SCL after Anna lost to Loramie. The Raiders are 8-2 in the league and 15-3 overall and host Springfield Catholic tonight.

Houston is 1-9 in the league and 5-10 overall and is at Troy Christian tonight.

The Raiders led most of the night, but the margin was just six after three periods at 35-29.

Russia put nine players in the scoring column, none of them in double figures.

Houston got 19 from Zach Freytag and 10 from Domyneik Phipps.

get MAC win

COLDWATER — The Versailles boys basketball team went on the road to defeat Coldwater 59-52 Friday night in MAC action.

Justin Ahrens led Versailles with 21 points.

Austin Knapke scored 14 points and Brett McEldowney added 12.
