MCGUFFEY — The Lehman Cavaliers fell behind 17-8 after one quarter and couldn’t recover in dropping a 62-43 verdict to Upper Scioto Valley in Northwest Central Conference boys basketball Friday night.
The loss left the Cavs at 1-4 in the NWCC and 2-12 overall with a game at Anna tonight.
“There were two reasons we lost that game,” said Lehman coach Tim Gleason. “First, we were 2 for 16 from three-point range. It was very unlike the Sidney game. We hit 40 percent from inside the three-point line, but that didn’t make up for it. We just weren’t hitting. And second, they really dominated us on the boards. We knew they had good size and we didn’t do a good job boxing out.
“But on the positive side, we only turned the ball over eight times and that was a season’s best,” he said. “So we played smart.”
Lehman got 10 points from Ben Frantz, all in the first half.
ARCANUM — The Miami East boys basketball team cruised to a 73-37 win over Arcanum in CCC action Friday night.

In other CCC games, Newton defeated Tri-County North 73-64 and Covington lost to Bethel 53-45.
RUSSIA — The Russia Raiders appeared to be in cruise control, leading Fort Loramie 26-11 at the half. But the Redskins came storming back in the final two periods, only to fall short in a 48-44 thriller in a SCL boys basketball at Russia Friday night.
A loss would have been costly to the Raiders, who trail league-leading Jackson Center by one game. Russia is now 7-2 in the league and 13-3 overall. Loramie is 3-7 and 6-11.
“We were up 15 at the half, but in the second half, Loramie got the ball to their shooters and they hit some tough shots,” said Russia coach Spencer Cordonnier. “And they created for themselves. But we hit free throws in the fourth quarter.”
The lead was down to just one point in the final period, but the Raiders canned 8 for 11 from the line in the fourth quarter to protect that lead.
Cole Tebbe had 16 for Russia and Jake Gariety 10. Dillon Braun had 12 for the Redskins.
Russia hosts Versailles tonight. Anna is back in action Friday at home against Anna.
