East handles Lehman boys


SIDNEY — The Miami East boys basketball team improved to 9-1 with a 73-39 win over Lehman Catholic Saturday night.

Damien Mackesy led the Vikings with 27 points.

Logan West scored 17 and Brandon Mack added 12.

Michael Bunker led Lehman with 12 points.

Roaders can’t

hold lead

BRADFORD — The Bradford boys basketball team held a four-point lead going to the fourth quarter, before losing 52-50 to Middletown Christian Saturday.

Drew Patty and Alex Swabb led Bradford with 13 points each, while Andy Branson cored 10.

Newton boys

cruise to win

NEWTON — The Newton boys basketball team cruised past Xenia Christian Saturday.

The Indians won 69-44 in non-conference action.

Botkins in SCL

RUSSIA — The Russia boys basketball tema got a 58-28 SCL win over Botkins Saturday.

Jake Gariety led the Raiders with 12 points, while Cole Tebbe added 10.

FORT LORAMIE — The Houston boys basketball team lost 51-45 to Fort Loramie in SCL action Saturday.

Domyenick Phipps had 14 points to lead the Wildcats, while Zach Freytag scored 10.

East girls

drop game

CASSTOWN — During one key stretch of the game, Tippecanoe simply couldn’t miss.

Nor did the Red Devils miss any other time it mattered most.

After Miami East took an early 11-2 lead, the Tippecanoe girls basketball team went 8 for 9 during the final 2:46 of the first quarter and the beginning of the second, hitting three of its six 3-pointers during an 18-point run that turned the tables on the Vikings. And though Miami East fought back in the second half, the Devils never gave up control in a 54-40 victory Saturday at Miami East.

Morgan Haney led the Vikings with 14 points, four assists and six steals and Haley Howard had six points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Megan Thompson added six points, Amber Kinnison scored five and Kyndall Hellyer scored four.

Lady Roaders

fall to St. Henry

BRADFORD — The Bradford girls basketball team lost to St. Henry 44-30 in non-conference action Saturday.

Mackenzie Weldy led the Lady Railroaders with 13 points and Mandi Bates added 10.

Russia girls

top Trojans

ARCANUM — The Russia girls won their second in a row, overcoming poor free throw shooting to beat the Arcanum Lady Trojans 41-36 in non-league girls basketball action Saturday.

The Lady Raiders go to 5-6 on the year with the win and will play at Newton Monday.

It was tied up at the half at 20-20 and even though the Lady Raiders scored just five points in the third quarter, they held Arcanum to just two. They then outscored Arcanum 16-14 in the final period to pull out the win.

“We were just 3-for-16 from the foul line,” said Russia coach Tim Hatcher. “Fortunately, our defense was very good in the third quarter. That’s two good wins in a row for us.”

Maria Herron was outstanding for the Lady Trojans, hitting five three-pointers on her way to 23 points for the game. Tiffany Hatcher added nine points.

Versailles girls

VERSAILLES — The Versailles girls basketball team lost a defensive battle with Fort Loramie 43-39 in non-conference action.

Danielle Winner led Versailles with 12 points and Lauren Monnin added eight.
