CASSTOWN — The Miami East girls basketball team headed into today’s big game with Versailles by defeating Bradford 52-33 in CCC action.
Haley Howard had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for East, while Bailey Miller and Morgan Haney scored 13 points each.
Mandi Bates led Bradford with 17 points and Olivia Hart added six.
Miami East Girls Defeated Bradford 62-33 tonight at Bradford. The Lady Vikings were led by Haley Howard with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Bailey Miller and Morgan Haney Chipped in 13 apiece. The Lady Vikings had nine players score tonight for the total team win. The Vikings do not have any time to rest, as the play defending Division III State Champions Versailles on Saturday.
ANSONIA — Tatum McBride and Maddie Mollette each scored 16 points, leading the Newton Indians to a 62-47 victory at Ansonia in Cross County Conference play Thursday.
Aliya Stine added 12 points and Elizabeth Carroll scored seven, but the Tigers (4-3, 2-1 CCC) kept the game tied 19-19 after one quarter. The Indians (5-1, 3-1 CCC) took a 35-29 lead at the half and outscored Ansonia 16-5 in the third to put the game away.
Newton hosts Bethel Saturday.
FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie settled down after a shaky first quarter and went on to beat visiting Russia in SCL girls basketball action Thursday, 51-35.
The Lady Redskins go to 2-0 in the league and 4-0 overall. Russia is now 1-2 and 2-3.
Russia’s Tiffany Hatcher stunned the hosts in the opening quarter with four three-pointers, leading the Lady Raiders to a 14-8 lead in the early going.
But from that point on, Loramie allowed Hatcher just four more points the rest of the way, and went on a 17-0 run that put the Lady Redskins on top for good at 25-14.
Loramie remained in control the rest of the way, but the Lady Raiders stayed in it.
Loramie standout Jessica Boerger poured in 25 points to score nearly half her team’s points on the night. She added 10 rebounds and six steals.
Hatcher finished with 16 and Maria Herron 12 for Russia.
HOUSTON — Houston and Fairlawn had a thriller Thursday night in County play at Houston, the Lady Wildcats winning 53-36.
Houston is now 2-1 in the SCL and 3-5 overall. Fairlawn is 0-3 and 0-5.
The two teams were deadlocked at 46-46 after regulation but Houston outscored the Lady Jets 7-0 in the overtime. Kara Maier had two points through four quarters, then scored four in the extra period.
Rebekah New had the hot hand from long range, hitting four threes and finishing with 17 to lead Houston. Jenna Winner added 13.
Audrey Francis had 24 to lead Fairlawn.
NEW KNOXVILLE — The Versailles girls basketball team will play at Miami East Saturday.
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 43-34 loss to New Knoxville in MAC action Thursday.
Lauren Monnin led Versailles with 13 points and Kami McEldowney scored nine.
