CASSTOWN — The Miami East boys soccer team advanced to the sectional finals with a 3-0 win over Brookville Saturday.

East will play Yellow Springs at Eaton Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the sectional finals.

After a slow start, East scored two goals in the final 11 minutes of the first half and added another early in the second half.

“It was another great battle,” Miami East coach Adam Bell said. “Things were looking a little uneasy for the first 30 minutes of the game as players were trying to get a feel for the sloppiness of the field with all the rain we were getting. Luckily they all adjusted very well in terms of what they could get away with and when they needed to play a little on the safer side.”

Devyn Carson started the scoring on an assist from Connor Wilson at the 10:55 mark.

“Our first score came from Devyn Carson on a Connor Wilson drive down the touch-line and crossed in to the 6-yard line,” Bell said. “That really gave us the momentum we needed to start stringing together really nice offensive runs all night long.”

Just 2:29 later, Dalton Taynor scored of Kaleb Elifritz’s throw-in and Carson added an unassisted goal with 37:57 left in the game.

“I couldn’t be more proud of way these guy shave banded together this season,” Bell said. “It’s exciting to see us playing our best soccer all season right now. I keep reminding them that this is the time of year when someone’s season ends every time there’s a game and it seems they have responded very well.”

Miami East will take a 15-3-0 record into that game.

Newton boys

top Botkins

PLEASANT HILL — The Newton boys soccer team advanced to the D-III sectional finals with a 5-2 win over Botkins Saturday.

Newton will play Bethel at Fairmont High School Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Cav boys

drop game

TIPP CITY — The Lehman Catholic Boys’ soccer season came to a close on a damp field at Bethel, as the Cavaliers were defeated by the Bees in second round sectional action, 2-0.

The Bees scored on a corner kick in the first half, as Lehman trailed 1-0 at the break. The Cavs stayed around up until the end, but with 7:42 left, Bethel converted a penalty kick to end the scoring.

“We came in with a gameplan, and for the most part, it worked,” Lehman coach Tom Wiseman said. “To lose to the number four team in the area at their place because of a corner kick and a PK says something about our effort.

“Our boys truly gave everything they had, but in the end we just couldn’t get and keep possession long enough. Despite our ending record, we had a good year considering our setbacks, and we’ll get started very soon on preparations for 2016.”

Lehman finished the season with a 6-11 mark.
