The Piqua City Open tennis tournament returns this Labor Day weekend following another great year last year.
Last year the tournament hosted 42 participants, nine of which were new to the tournament. Despite unusually hot weather of 90 degrees plus, 13 players participated in multiple events.
The Piqua Tennis Association was formed in 1977. Over the past 39 years several tournament directors and countless volunteers have helped to keep this tournament going. As far as we know this is the only unsanctioned tournament of its size that still exists in Ohio.
Last year’s tournament director, Bonnie Davis, is returning this year to ensure another successful tournament. Bonnie, now retired, is working very hard to foster of a love of tennis in the community. She has been involved in several programs focusing on getting youth into the sport, as well as playing on the Schroeder Tennis 4.0 Team.
