Cindy Pearson believes in making a difference — especially when it comes to health and wellness.

“I have been part of Positively Promoting Piqua for several years,” Pearson said. “And I am happy that I am — they support a lot of wonderful community activities.”

Which is where Pearson came up with the idea of the “Pack The Path”, a 5K walk-run to be held at Lock Nine Park at 9 a.m. June 11.

This will be the fifth annual event — the first three were held at French Park — and it will be the third year it is a run as well as a walk.

“I work at Piqua Family Practice,” Pearson, the wife of longtime Piqua track and field coach Ron Pearson, said. “Health and wellness is something I have a passion for. I am a big believer in exercise. I walk every day on the path. I probably walk about five miles (a day).”

And again, the even will be much more than just a run/walk.

“We will have a nurse on hand to speak to people,” Pearson said. “We have diabetic materials here for people. We will have someone here who can check people’s blood pressure. We will have cold water for all the walkers.”

The walk will start and finish at Lock 9 along the Piqua Bike Path and bikes are welcome.

Entry fee is one canned good and entrants will receive a water bottle.

“That (the canned goods) will go to the Bethany Center,” Pearson said. “I understand that they are feeding more than they ever have and this will help out.”

Pearson’s goal is to turn in more canned goods to the Bethany Center than in previous events.

As always, Pearson wants more residents to take advantage of the bike path as well.

“It is summer,” Pearson said. “People need to be out exercising. We have such a beautiful bike path.”

And if Pearson has anything to say about it, more people will become aware of it and take advantage of summer.
