SPRINGFIELD — The Piqua Post 184 American Legion baseball team opened the season with two wins in the Wittenberg Memorial Tournament.
Piqua beat Greenville 6-4.
Andrew Lundvall was 2-for-3 with a RBI and Travis Smith had a double and a RBI.
Austin Arnold had a double. Mason Justice had a rbi and Joshua Osterholt got the win pitching four and one-third innings.. Smith finised out the game with four strikeouts and a walk.
“It was a great way to start the year and always good to get a win over one of our league rivals,” Piqua coach Justin Jennings said.
Piqua won the second 6-4
“These boys have some heart,” Jennings said. “We where down 3-1 after the third inning.We came back and tied the game 3-3 in the fourth only to go back down 6-4 in the fifth.”
In the home seventh, Justice came off the bench to pinch hit to start us off with a triple off the left center field fence. Followed by hits from Dakota iddings, Osterholt, Logan Harris andSmith.
That left Lundvall up with bases loaded and the game all tied.
“Andrew (Lundvall) was stroking the ball all day, yet had the patience to take a walk for the game winning run,” Jennings said. “He didn’t get greedy. He did what he needed to do.”
Aaron Boerger started the game but had a slite hip injury,so he got relief from Harris.
“Logan (Harris) stayed in the game even after a little rocky pitching, but was able to fight through it and get the win,” manager Jeff Jennings said. “Logan did a great job of finishing the game.Its easy to quit in that situation but none of them quit,it was a good win for us early in the year.”
Smith was 3-for-3 with a triple, double, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs.
Lundvall was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs; while Joe McGillivary was 2-for-3.
