Cookies bring sweet smiles

To the Editor:

The “i Love Piqua” workshop series kicked off at Fort Piqua Plaza in early June with Peter Kageyama the author of the book “For the Love of Cities.” It was a wonderful workshop and many neat ideas were formed by those in attendance to show our community how much we really do love Piqua!

Citizens for a Better Piqua discussed the workshop in our June meeting and talked about ways we could “love our city.” Since we had adopted the park around the Gazebo in front of the Library, we came up with the idea to greet people once a month with free cookies. It was then that our “Cookie & a Smile” celebration was born! Once a month, throughout the summer, our Citizens group has shown up at the Gazebo on a Thursday afternoon and offered free cookies to those that pass by. This, as you could imagine, has been very well-received! There have been many smiles and happy faces as cookies were given out and neighbors greeted neighbors. How can you not smile when someone gives you a free cookie, just because?

The Scott Family McDonald’s provided our cookies each and every time we have done this. I would like to thank them for their generous donation, which has helped to make Piqua smile!

We will do this again this month on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m., so if you want a “Cookie & a Smile” come down to the Gazebo that day and one will be waiting for you!
