Re: The recent newspaper article that said, “Piqua High School’s Women’s Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir, and Men’s Chorus received ‘Superior’ ratings at the OMEA Southwest District XI adjudicated event on March 3 and 4,” and further stated that, “Each of the choirs was awarded four ‘Superior’ ratings from the three judges evaluating their song selections, as well as the judge who evaluated their sight reading skills. This accomplishment of receiving nothing less than a Superior rating from any one judge is unprecedented in the history of Piqua High School choirs.”
I want to impress on the public that this also is a rare accomplishment for ANY high school. We all have appreciated the outstanding performances of Piqua High School’s music instructor Tom Westfall’s musical groups on the Piqua High School stage, in Music Warehouse, and at many community organizations and events. However, this adjudication of all “Superiors” by OMEA judges tells us that Tom Westfall is not only a music teacher, but is is an outstanding music educator covering all aspects of teaching music to children. How fortunate we are to have him teaching the students in Piqua High School.
