Big Brothers Big Sisters thanks sponsors

To the Editor:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Miami Valley hosted its 5th annual “A Perfect Match” wine tasting and dinner at the Troy Country Club on Sept. 29. This event would not be possible without the efforts of John Ernst of Ernst Concrete and Mike Caughell of Bruns General Contractors. We are so grateful for their leadership and support.

Over $53,000 was raised to support one-to-one mentoring services for nearly 75 youth in Miami County. Big Sister Elizabeth and Little Sister Kayla were featured speakers during the event. They have been matched since July 2014 and despite busy schedules, makes time to do interesting activities, including reading a popular young adult book and discussing it, going to movies, Dayton Dragons’ baseball games, The Nutcracker Ballet, and Madame Butterfly. Kayla is a senior this year so they also have plans to visit a couple of college campuses. Elizabeth states, “I have gained so much from spending time with this amazing young lady.” Kayla shared that she was dealing with some challenges at home and with friends when she met Elizabeth and has enjoyed their activities and talks. Kayla “is looking forward to attending college to study social work and plans on becoming a Big Sister one day herself.”

We are thankful for the many sponsors who made this a wonderful event for all who attended: Platinum Sponsor, Brian Williamson; Host Sponsors, Bruns General Contracting and Ernst Concrete; Presenting Sponsor, Horan; Gold Sponsors ITW Food Equipment Group/Hobart Corp., Keystone Homes, and Earhart Company; Silver Sponsors, Hemm Glass, Scott Family McDonalds, Miami Valley Steel, Hartzell Industries, Kentner Sellers, Minster Bank, Johnson Chevrolet, UVMC/Premier Health, MAC, Harmony Systems, Millmark Construction, Milcon Concrete, Minco, Power Solutions, Matt DiCicco, Elements IV Interiors, Brent Black Family Fund, RB Jergens, Repacorp, and Koverman Staley Dickerson Insurance; Honorary Sponsor, Dungan & LeFevre Co., L.P.A.
