BRADFORD — I’m pretty sure I am not the only one looking forward to Spring. I’m ready to keep my flip-flops out for the season.

It’s a beautiful thing, life. It can be ugly. It can be cruel. It can hurt. There’s always a lesson to be learned and never enough time to get it ALL right. But, I want to know at the end of my journey on earth, that I did my best to be kind, spread love, laughter and to be happy. You get what you give. And I know I want a whole lotta of those things.

Bradford Community Club

There will be a chicken noodle benefit dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13. Proceeds from this dinner will go to Nichole Renee Painter. Painter is a resident of Bradford and she has two children at Bradford schools. Meals will be $7 for adults, $5 for children, $2 desserts and $1 drinks. If you are unable to attend, they will also be delivering meals. There will also be raffles, a cake walk and fellowship. Please join us in helping Nichole as she fights this battle against brain cancer. Prayers and love are encouraged.

The club will be hosting a fundraising canvas painting night for students from 4th to 12th grade. The first session will be for 4th to 7th grades. The cost will be $20 and will last about an hour. Eight through 12th grade will be $30 (larger canvas and longer painting time). The paintings haven’t been chosen yet. The club is looking forward to having The Orchid and the Frog host another amazing event. Please look for posters or on Facebook under Bradford Community Club for more information.

Resource Center

Did you know Bradford has a resource center for those in need of food? The center has been around for years. This program is available to Bradford residents or those living in the Bradford school district. You must contact Mary Alice Yount at (937)448-2444. You will have to show proof of address and income. She will then provide you with some groceries. You may also contact Mary Alice if you would like to make any food or monetary donations for the resource center.

Bradford Public Library

The library is starting a Reading Mentor Program. If you would like some training, it will start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Hook the Book Reading Mentor program is for children in kindergarten through 2nd grade. This will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 8. In order for the mentors to be ready, they will need to know who is attending. Please contact the library at (937) 448-2612 and give your child’s name and grade level. There will be no more than three children in any group. The library will be working with the Bradford school district and complementing their program, to ensure successful reading habits during the early primary years. This will take place each month on the second and fourth Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Contact Mrs. Roeth with further questions.

Creating with Leather workshop with Mr. John Miller was such a success that he is offering another. This will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on March 7. Tools will be provided. If you would like to learn from Miller, please sign up for this event.

The library is pleased to present Dolly Parton’s “Imagination Library” for all preschoolers. This program, where each child receives a free book on a monthly basis, is also free for parents and grandparents! Come in to get your preschooler signed up. It is easy and you will be amazed how this reading program, started in 1997, can help create a reader in your family! Contact the library at (937) 448-2612 for additional information. The library has learned that Darke County United Way is funding this program for patrons who live in Darke County, so no child will be left out of this amazing program. You can also go to https://imaginationlibrary.com/ to find out more about this program or register your child or grandchild.
