CALLING AROUND COVINGTON

Church to host first salad luncheon

Alex Moore - Contributing Columnist

I know I have mentioned in previous editions of this column how fortunate we are here in Covington to have delicious community breakfasts, lunches, and suppers. I am one who definitely enjoys a good meal, especially when I don’t have to cook it! Now it is time for another one of those delicious meals. The Covington Christian Church’s Women’s Fellowship is sponsoring their first salad luncheon of 2016. The lunch will be held this Friday, June 17, in the basement of the church at 115 N. Pearl St. Look for the signs to enter at the basement entrance on the north side of the church. There is also a handicapped-accessible entrance.

Come enjoy their large assortments of homemade salads, desserts, and finger sandwiches between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The donation for lunch is only $6, and that includes the church specialty, hot chicken salad. It is delicious. And if you don’t have time to sit and enjoy your lunch and fellowship in the air conditioned basement, carry-out meals are also available. It will taste almost as good back at your desk at work. And this is the first of several Covington Christian Church luncheons this year. They will be held the third Friday of each month through October. Everyone is welcome!

The annual Covington Vacation Bible School will kick off next week, from Monday, June 20 until Friday, June 24. As always, the Bible School will be a fantastic, fun-filled time. It is planned for ages 3 through sixth graders. The location this year is again at the Covington Church of the Brethren, at the corner of Wall and Wright streets, and runs from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. each day. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning. The theme this year is “Deep Sea Discovery,” with the reminder that “God is with Me Wherever I Go!” This year’s VBS is being run by the Covington Presbyterian Church. For more information, or to volunteer to help, please call Ginny Watson at (937) 473-5242.

The Covington Bucc Boosters’ annual Golf Scramble fundraiser is set for Saturday, June 25, at Echo Hills Golf Course in Piqua. If you have not yet registered your foursome, there is still a bit of time to register, but it must be completed this week. There are also still a few sponsorship opportunities available. The entry and sponsorship form can be found on the Bucc Boosters Facebook page.

On the day of the scramble, registration will open at 7:30 a.m., with the shotgun start at 8 a.m. After 18 holes of golf, lunch and the awards ceremony will take place at the End Zone back in Covington. The fee is $60 per golfer, and includes greens fee, cart, prize raffle entry, and dinner. Contact Bob Supinger at (513) 266-2029 or Glen Hollopeter at (937) 216-2255 for more information. Or visit the Covington Bucc Boosters on their aforementioned Facebook page.

And one more golf scramble for a good cause is upcoming and will take place on Saturday, July 16. This is the Christmas in July/Staci Blythe Memorial Fundraiser. Mark your calendars now. More information about this very worthy cause will appear in a future edition of Calling Around Covington.
