The Piqua volleyball team got a big early season win on the road, knocking off Springboro 25-16, 27-25, 25-22.

“I was proud of my team tonight,” Piqua coach Kaila Cook said. “We defeated a good Springboro team. We fought for every point and came out with a great win in three.

Michaela Bell led a balanced attack with 10 kills, while Logan Earns had seven kills and four aces and Tasha Potts added five kills and 22 digs.

Kailey Byers led the defense with 32 digs, while Cassidy Sullenberger dished out 22 assist and Fran Haney served four aces.

Piqua, 2-0, will host West Carrollton Tuesday.


East boys

beat MV

ST. PARIS — The Miami East boys golf team stayed perfect in the CCC with a 172-272 win over Mississinawa Valley at Lakeland Golf Course.

Ryan Bergman was medalist with 39.

Other East scores were Devyn Carson 43, Scot Kirby 45 and Dylan Martinez 45.

Bucc boys

handle Newton

The Covington boys golf team defeated Newton 171-194 at Echo Hills Thursday.

Covington’s Andrew Slusher was medalist with a 40.

Other Covington scores were Levi Winn 42, Joe Slusher 44, Ty Boehringer 45, Jacob Blair 46, James Grilliot 58.

Newton’s top four were Brock Jamison 42, Wade Ferrell 48, Milan Bess 52 and Grant Bayer 52.

Tigers boys

top Indians

CELINA — The Versailles boys golf team posted a 168-172 victory over Fort Recovery Thursday at Celina Elks.

Jake Watren shared medalist honors with 39 to lead the Tigers.

Other Versailles scores were Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker 41, Kyle Cotner 41, Griffin Riegle 47, Michael Hemmelgarn 54 and P.J. Platfoot 55.

Lehman JVs

fall to Piqua

The Lehman JV boys golf team lost to Piqua 216-226.

Lehman scores were Adam Vanderhorst 49, Avery Pickerell 53, Griffin West 56, Blake Leffel 68.


Lady Vikings

drop match

ST. PARIS — The Miami East girls golf team lost to Kenton Ridge 190-234.

Miami East scores were Kiera Fellers 55, Megan Pettit 58, Bailey Miller 60, Maggie Bergman 61, Megan Thompson 71 and Crynne Gross 72.

Lady Raiders

edge Minster

WEBSTER — The Russia girls golf team edged Minster on the back nine at Stillwater Valley Golf Course 216-223 Thursday.

Alicia George, Corrina Francis, Kara Barlage, Lindsay Meyer and Lizzie Adams all shot 54 for Russia, while Maddie Borchers added a 56.

Russia, who won the JV match 246-257, will play Riverside and Minster Tuesday at Cherokee Hills.

Lady Tigers

WEBSTER — The Versailles golf team defeated Fort Recovery 194-240 at Stillwater Valley Golf Course.

Madison Covault and Hannah Niekamp shared medalist honors with 45.

Other Versailles scoes were Kaitlyn Middendorf 51, Lauren Heitkamp 53, Morgan Middendorf 61 and Lauren Dunham 63.


East scrimmage

set for today

CASSTOWN — The Miami East football scrimmage with Northwestern was postponed Friday and will be played today.

The junior high starts at 10 a.m., with the high school scrimmage at noon.



Piqua boys

top Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — The Piqua boys golf team defeated Springfield 179-193 at Springfield Elks Golf Course Wednesday.

Kyle Ingle was medalist with 42.

Other Piqua scores were Kenton Kiser 43, Derek Jennings 45, Jon Irvin 49, Cole Greaser 52 and Brennan Hicks 53.

The Piqua JVs lost to Troy 181-210 at Echo Hills.

Jared Gullett led Piqua with a 48.

Other Indian scores were Dylon Bayman 51, Spencer Lavey 52 and Vernon Mulano 59.

Newton boys

lose to MU

WEST MILTON — The Newton boys golf team lost to Milton-Union 178-187 Wednesday.

Brock Jamison led Newton with a 42.

Other Indian scores were Wade Ferrell 43, Donovan Osceola 48 and Milan Bess 54.

drop match

WEBSTER — The Versailles boys golf team lost 158-164 to Minster on the front nine at Stillwater Valley Golf Course Wednesday.

Jacob Watren led Versailles with a 39.

Other Tiger scores were Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker 40, Kyle Cotner 41, Griffen Riegle 44, Michael Hemmelgarn 54, P.J. Platfoot 55, Alec Ahrens 62, Kyle Christian 64.


Lady Indians

The Piqua girls golf team defeated Covington 220-224 Wednesday at Echo Hills.

Macey Pruitt shot a personal-best 51 to earn medalist honors.

Other Lady Indian scores were Cassidy Kraft 54, Alaina Mikolajewski 56, Anna Klopfenstein 59, Kailyn Simmons 67 and Korren Evans 70.

Lady Vikings

split tri-match

SPRINGFIELD — The Miami East girls golf team split a tri-match with Tippecanoe and Greenon at Rocky Lakes Golf Course.

Team scores were Tippecanoe 165, Miami East 205, Greenon 246.

Miami East scores were Kiera Fellers 45, Megan Pettit 45, Megan Thompson 54, Maggie Bergman 61, Haley Howard 61 and Emily Rowley 63.

Lady Tigers

get MAC win

WEBSTER — The Versailles girls golf team defeated Minster 192-214 in MAC action Wednesday.

Madison Covault was medalist with 44 to lead the Lady Tigers.

Other Versailles scores were Hannah Covault 48, Lauren Heitkamp 48, Kaitlyn Middendorf 52, Lauren Durham 56 and Morgan Middendorf 59.
