Lehman blanks

Wave 3-0

The Lehman Catholic boys soccer team opened their 2014 season with a 3-0 victory over Greenville on Tuesday. Greenville falls to 0-2-0 on the season.

Freshman Jake Emrick and sophomore Trey Kerrigan each contributed a goal and an assist a piece. Also adding to the total for Lehman Catholic was sophomore John Henry Frantz with a goal and senior Travis Thornton with an assist.

The first half ended in a scoreless tie, and it was still undecided.

“Early on, our defense seemed uncomfortable and we had trouble hitting frame on our shots,” Lehman coach Thom Thornton said. “We switched over to a 4-3-3 in the second half and were able to capitalize on opportunities. We kept possession a majority of the game and got some quality play from our substitutes, that helped keep everyone fresh. Later on, we were able to outrun the other team and finish the game strong.”

Greenville struggled on offense, sending off only one shot-on-goal for the entire contest, compared to 24 for the Cavaliers.

Lehman is back in action on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 3 p.m. at home against the visiting Lincolnview.
