The Piqua boys tennis team finished their dual match season with a tough 5-0 loss to a strong Troy team.
In singles, Devon Parshall lost to Luke Oaks 6-0, 6-0; Josh Hanes lost a tough three setter to Connor Oaks 6-0, 3-6, 6-2; and Tyler Lavey also lost a very tough three set match to Matt Schmitt 4- 6, 6-0, 6-0.
“Despite the scores, Tyler was in every game and most went to deuce,” Piqua coach Deb Retman said.
In first doubles, Andrew Lamphar and Luke Hanes lost to Matt Alexander and Jon Stutz 6-0, 6-1.
“They played a very competitive match against a very experienced team,” Retman said.
In second doubles, Jarod Haney and Jaron Cantrell played one of their best matches together.
They lost the match 6-1, 6-3.
“This was a great season for the players,” Retman said. “We only won two matches last year and we won five this year and took sixth in a tournament.
“Last year we lost many matches where we lost 6-0 at all positions,” she said. “This year we pushed our opponents and wetook games.
“We forced the other players to win. I am really proud ofthe effort this team put forward all season. Piqua can be proud of the way these players represented them on the court.”
The Silver Flight GWOC tournament is Saturday in Troy and D-I sectional play is on Wednesday at Troy
n Piqua picked up a win against Bellefontaine 5-0 Monday.
“The team was consistent tonight,” Piqua coach Deb Retman said.
In singles, Devon Parshall defeated Tyler Franz 6-1, 6-0, Josh Hanes defeated Adam Verbsky 7-5, 6-1 and Tyler Lavey defeated Isaiah Brady 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles, Andrew Lamphar and Luke Hanes defeated Max Wilcoxon and Mason Bailey 6-0, 6-0. and Jarod Haney and Jaron Cantrell defeated Dean Smith and Min Lin 6-3, 6-3.
In JV action, Brendan Tisher and Mandy Leggitt added a win at first doubles — they were down 6-1 and won 8-6 in a tie breaker; 7-5.
CJ Tipps and Dillan Gump won at second doubles 8-6.
