HOUSTON —Bri Garber is just a small-town girl at heart.

So, when the daughter of Eric and Michelle Garber visited Urbana University, she knew she had found her home for the next four years.

Garber signed her letter of intent to play volleyball for UU this week in the Houston High School commons.

“I really like it here at Houston and I wanted to go somewhere similar,” Garber said. “They have a great teacher to student ratio, which I liked. The coach told me it is a place where I can play right away if I go there.”

Garber, who was the Lady Wildcats left outside hitter, had 47 kills, 62 digs, 20 blocks, 10 aces and one assist this past season, showing her versatility.

She was named honorable mention All-Shelby County League and played in the District 9 All-Star game.

“Bri (Garber) was our left outside, but she played all the way around for us,” Houston coach Amy MakeIa said. ” would say her desire, competitiveness and determination (make her such a good player.

“She will be joining one of her former teammates (Kortney Phipps) at Urbana. I think it is a great fit for her.”

Garber felt like she had something to prove after injuring her shoulder.

“I was really determined after my shoulder surgery in February to be able to come back and play (in college),” she said. “This feels great (making it official). It is really hard to explain, but she (Kortney Phipps) was a close teammate of mine here at Houston and I look forward to playing with her again.”

And she made it official, signing in front of family and friends this week — another easy decision.
