Restaurant inspections


Restaurant inspections are performed in the county by Miami County Public Health, except in Piqua, which has its own health department. These inspection reports were provided by Miami County Public Health.

Sept. 21

Arby’s, 903 W. Main St., Troy — Follow-up for prep cooler. Prep cooler is holding food at 41 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Monitor cooler to ensure 41 degrees or below to limit bacteria growth.

China Garden Buffet, 15 S. Weston Road, Troy — Follow-up inspection for pest issue. No pest issues soon at time of inspection. Continue to use pest control expert. Also continue to clean all areas regularly.

China Moon, 1055 S. Miami St., West Milton — Observed a large tub of food cooling in the walk-in cooler. Discussed with owners to cool in small amounts in separate pans to reach cooling time parameters. Observed some grease dripping from hood and pipes under hood. Clean more often to prevent accumulation. Critical violation at time of inspection: repair hand soap dispenser at front of kitchen.

Dairy Queen, 513 W. Main St., Tipp City — Clean hard-to-reach areas on floor more frequently. Observed residual build-up on floor along walls, under things and corners.

Honeybaked Ham, 771 W. Market St., Troy — Observed bagged cookies available for customers disposal without any labeling. Discussed options available. Will respond to customer request at this time. Repairman at facility now to repair oven. New elements were purchased. They are going to clean the inside and repair.

Penn Station, 2331 W. Main St., Troy — Plastic piece in ice machine needs replaced. Replace plastic inside lid cover with paper replacement.

Speedway, 4 Weller Drive, Tipp City — Observed a leak from pipe under the three-sink. Repair plumbing. Observed four bottles of motor oil on same shelf as lids of salt, pepper in stockroom. Keep all chemicals separate from food and single-use utensils to prevent contamination.

Sept. 22

The Caroline, 5 S. Market St., Troy — Observed workers with beards without a hair restraint. Please obtain. Critical violation at time of inspection: observed shrimp at 54 degrees and salad at 52 in prep cooler above 41 degrees. TCS foods must be kept below 41 degrees to limit germ growth. Food discarded. Prep refrigerator found at 52 degrees. Repair or adjust equipment to hold below 41 degrees. Observed peeling paint on wall in stockroom. The tiles on floor are very broken and need replaced. Replace ceiling tiles that are missing.

Troy Bulk Barn, 4 W. Main St., Troy — Observed packaged cake without ingredient list. Please provide all ingredients list for all packaged foods if two or more ingredients.

Union Street Station Cafe, 251 Union Street, Troy — Clean behind cook line of residual oil build-up frequently. Fix hot water knob on hand sink next to restroom. Sanitizer level in three-compartment sink is low. Use test strips to test levels, ensure 200 ppn or greater for Quat.

Sept. 23

LT Ball Intermediate, 575 N. Hyatt St., Tipp City — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Rich Oil, 1 W. Broadway St., Covington — Critical violation at time of inspection: observed chicken on roller oven at 129 degrees Fahrenheit. TCS foods must be kept at 135 degrees or below once cooked to limit germ growth. Chicken removed and reheated. Critical violation at time of inspection: observed a mop bucket and boxes in front of hand sink making it not easily accessible. Keep all items away from hand so that employees may wash hands more easily. Paper towels in machine but not coming out. Please repair.

Taco Bell, 985 Main Street, Tipp City — Floor must be deeply cleaned and regrouted. Observed floor with little to no grout between tiles. Also focus on cleaning hard-to-reach areas on floor of residual build-up. Observed baseboard damaged in walk-in cooler. Fix. Observed FRP wall board separating from wall. Fix properly. Fix water leak at prep sink faucet. Observed aging equipment (ex. hot press/small oven.) Replace damaged equipment or properly maintain. Ensure equipment is easily cleanable.

Sept. 24

Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant, 145 Tippecanoe Drive, Tipp City — Observed lights on buffet not covered or scatter proof. Replace lights properly. Water condensation is dripping into bucket from cooler condensor, water must be drained in an approved method. Resurface/replace cutting board. Observed stained cutting board.

La Quinta Inn and Suites, 14 Weller Drive, Tipp City — Hand wash has no soap. Ensure handsink has soap available at all times. Biscuits and sausage gravy in cooler not covered. Ensure foods are covered to prevent cross contamination.

• Echo Hills Golf Course, 2100 Echo Lake Drive, Piqua — No hand soap was present at hand sink. Must have hand soap present at all times so hands can be washed as needed. Corrected. Signs of rodents present. Increase use of traps/methods of removal and increase level of sanitation.

• Winan’s Chocolate & Coffees, 310 Spring St., Piqua — Satisfactory at the time of inspection. Remember to wash and rinse and sanitize in-use equipment every 4 hours.
