Restaurant inspections


Restaurant inspections are performed in the county by Miami County Public Health, except in Piqua, which has its own health department. Miami County Public Health can be reached at (937) 573-3500, by email at [email protected] or on the website at www.miamicountyhealth.net. These inspection reports were provided by Miami County Public Health.

Sept. 12

Broadway Elementary School, 223 W. Broadway St., Tipp City — Equipment and/or components are not maintained in good working order. The fan on the walk-in cooler is spraying a mist. Manager states it has been reported to maintenance. Discussed that all food must be covered with plastic or lids to prevent any contamination. Repair cooler ASAP. The physical facilities are not being maintained in good repair. Many floor tiles have been replaced but observed a few in the kitchen that are broken.

Nevin Coppock Elementary School, 525 N. Hyatt St., Tipp City — Previous building issues have been resolved at this time.

Sept. 13

Bethel Elementary and Middle Schools, 7490 S. St. Rt. 201, Tipp City — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Sept. 14

Koester Pavilion, 3232 N. Co. Rd. 25-A, Troy — Critical violation: equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are dirty. Observed food debris on can opener.

Lincoln Square V, 1320 Archer Dr., Troy — Critical violation: TCS foods were not being held at the proper temperature. Observed cottage cheese (52F) and coleslaw (52F) being held above 41F in salad prep refrigerator. Foods disposed. Equipment and/or components are not maintained in good working order. Observed salad prep refrigerator holding at 57F. Do not use until repaired to hold at 41F or below. Critical violation: equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are dirty. Observed food debris on can opener. Clean more often.

Youthland Academy, 840 Arthur Dr., Troy — Observed dented cans found in storage area. Observed improper storage of needles near to food stuffs. Food shall be protected from contamination by storing the food in a clean, dry location, where it is not exposed to splash, dust, or other contamination, and at least six inches above the floor.

Sept. 15

Grounds for Pleasure Coffeehouse, 115 E. Main St., Tipp City — Observed employee food being stored in a non-designated area. Critical violation: prep cooler behind the bar was not holding proper temperature. TCS foods were not being held at the proper temperature. Critical violation: observed ice machine with black residual build-up. Observed bottom of freezer in back storage area with black residual build-up. Observed hose from espresso machine not placed properly over drain, waste was leaking onto floor. A toilet room was not completely enclosed and/or did not have a tight-fitting, self-closing door. Observed no towels or hand drying device at the hand-washing sink(s). The light intensity behind the bar area was less than 20 foot candles. Observed broken floor tile behind the bar near espresso machine.

Riverside School, 1625 N. Troy-Sidney Rd., Troy — Observed mineral build up and a small amount of standing water in the dishwasher, and mineral stains underneath dishwasher near floor drains.

Troy Elks, 17 W. Franklin St., Troy — Critical violation: equipment food-contact surfaces or utensils are dirty. Observed food debris on can opener. Clean more often. Observed floors, walls, and/or ceilings that were not constructed of approved materials. Observed the contact paper in the utensil drawer to be ripped & shredded. Please repair.

Troy High School, 151 W. Staunton Rd., Troy — The physical facilities are not being maintained in good repair. Observed peeling paint on the ceiling in chemicals room.

Sept. 16

Cookson Elementary School, 921 Mystic Ln., Troy — Equipment is not approved by a recognized testing agency. Observed residential cooler in storage area. Observed a hand-washing sink without water at the required temperature.

Tippecanoe High School, 615 E. Kessler Cowlesville Rd., Tipp City — Satisfactory at time of inspection.

Weldy’s Dairy Bar, 218 S. Miami Ave., Bradford — Critical violation: refrigerated, ready-to-eat, time controlled for safety (TCS) foods held refrigerated for more than 24 hours were not properly date marked. Repeat observation: observed residential microwave and freezers. Equipment is not approved by a recognized testing agency. A food thermometer was not readily accessible. Observed gaskets on coolers that need to be replaced. Equipment and/or components are not maintained in good working order. Observed build-up of ice in two-door cooler, causing condensation issues. Equipment and/or components are not maintained in good working order. Observed ice machine in complete disrepair. Replace ice machine. The surfaces of cutting blocks or boards were severely scratched or scored and could not be effectively cleaned and sanitized. Observed mixer with a residual build-up. Observed fryer and cooking area with grease build-up on surfaces. Non-food contact surfaces of equipment are unclean. Observed napkin boxes that were not properly stored. Repeat observation: single-service and single-use articles are not properly stored. Observed no towels or hand drying device at the hand-washing sink(s). Observed tile flooring in the front cooler area that is cracked and in need of repair, The physical facilities are not being maintained in good repair.
