COVINGTON – An upcoming 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the village of Covington will not only offer area athletes the chance to shoot some hoops, but to do so for a great cause.
The Covington Police Department, the Covington Police Auxiliary, and the Covington Noon Optimists is sponsoring the Covington 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, July 26, and the proceeds from the athletic event will later be donated to the Covington Little Buccs Football program.
Applications to participate in the fund-raising, 3-on-3 basketball tournament are available at: http://www.covington-oh.gov/Pages/Docs/Police.aspx.
Registration forms can be sent to the Covington Police Department, 1 S. High St., Covington, OH, 45318. The deadline to register is July 25. The registration fee is $60 per team. Checks should be made out to the Covington Police Auxiliary.
The tournament will feature three divisions: top, competitive, and amateur.
All ages are welcome, but those under the age of 18 need a parent or guardian’s signature to participate.
Team check-in will be on that Saturday morning 40 minutes prior to a team’s first game in the tournament.
The event itself will take place at the outdoor basketball facility next to the Covington Middle School. Indoor courts will be used if the weather does not cooperate.
Covington police officer Chris Walters said similar tournaments held in the past have been successful and this year organizers are expecting about 40 teams.
“Last year we gave $1,000 to the Covington Elementary School to help funding for books, pencils and school supplies,” Walters said.
He said every year the family-friendly tournament is held the organizers try to select a new organization to donate the money to.
“Every year, the event continues to grow,” Walters said.
