MIAMI COUNTY — Miami County Sheriff’s Office officials arrested Samantha Rhoades, 29, of Covington, on child endangering charges, drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, left of center and possession of prescription drugs on Thursday night.

A Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped Rhoades who was traveling southbound on I-75 near mile marker 67 after observing her going left of center several times.

The deputy smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer also saw Rhoades’ 2-year-old daughter in the back seat. The deputy asked Rhoades about the smell of marijuana and she dropped her head, then removed a multi-colored smoking pipe from a compartment between her visors. During the initial investigation, Rhoades stated there were two small baggies of marijuana in her purse. She stated she had prescription drugs inside the vehicle as well, but they were prescribed to her. Another deputy on the scene searched the vehicle and located the two small baggies of marijuana and two pill bottles. One of the pill bottles was properly labeled with Rhoades’ name and contained two Xanax pills. The other pill bottle was clear green and contained 25.5 assorted pills. Rhoades told deputies the green bottle contained Xanax and Oxycodone. The deputy identified the contents of the green pill bottle, which contained 13 generic hydrocodone pills, 8.5 hydrocodone pills, and 4 tramadol pills. Rhoades’ mother arrived a short time later and took custody of the 2 year-old. Rhoades was placed into custody and transported to Miami County Jail without further incident. The pipe, marijuana, and green bottle containing the 25.5 pills were placed into evidence.

Rhoades was charged with left of center, drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, child endangering, and possession of prescription drugs.

Rhoades posted bond and was released Friday. A preliminary hearing was set for March 20.
