MIAMI COUNTY — When the perfect opportunity presents itself — grab it.

That was Kylee Fisher’s motivation to enter last year’s Miami County Junior Fair livestock scramble as kids of all ages chased and caught various livestock donated by local breeders.

The 2014 Miami County Livestock Scramble will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. The cost of admission is $2 for an evening full of laughs and mud-covered winners.

It was the first year the fair brought back the livestock scramble activity to encourage kids to not only have fun, but to have an opportunity to receive a quality show animal free of charge for the next year’s fair.

“I thought it would be fun,” said Fisher as she worked to fit her market barrow projects this week. “Last year was my first year. I just love animals and I wanted to be more involved with it and I wanted to do better at the show. this was one way I could do it.”

Fisher said she didn’t care that she had to get dirty in order to beat other 4-H members at the chance of a free show animal.

“I just went out there because it looked fun and I wanted to show a nice animal for this year,” Fisher said. “Thank you to all who donated animals so kids like me can show them the next year. It was nice.”

Fisher, 14, of Troy, will be showing two market barrows, including the one donated by Mike Kirby at this year’s 4-H shows. Fisher is a member of the Milton-Union Footprints 4-H Club. She is a student at Newton Local Schools.

The following local livestock breeders donated market animals to the winners of the livestock scramble for 4-H members to show at the 2014 Miami County Fair: Jim Johnson, market lambs; Mike Kirby, market barrows; and Sam Sutherly, beef projects. Several local market goat breeders donated animals for 4-H members to show as well.
