CASSTOWN —The Miami East chapter of the Girls on the Run organization took charity in stride, collecting approximately 225 pairs of shoes for those in need in their community and underdeveloped countries.

Each year, the Miami East Elementary School chapter of the Girls on the Run organization selects a community project.

This year, the team decided to collect shoes for the needy. Shoe donation bins were available in all three Miami East buildings for the GOTR community project. New and gently used shoes in all sizes – kids and adults – were requested.

The girls also teamed up with local charities to donate the shoes, too. According to a press release, the organization will be keeping half of the shoes in the Miami East area and sending the other half to a charity called “The Shoe Project,” The Shoe Project sends shoes to underdeveloped areas of the world.
