• COFFEE WITH VETERANS: The Miami Valley Veterans Museum, 107 W. Main St., second floor, Troy, will hold its monthly coffee and doughnuts with veterans at 9 a.m. All area veterans are invited to attend, and an elevator is available to transport veterans to the second floor. Tours of the museum with its hundreds of artifacts dating back to the War of 1812 will be available. Vietnam combat veteran and Edison State Community College faculty member, Carl DeSantis, will present a brief overview of services to veterans at the local college and will introduce guest speaker, Edison student Stephen Hayes. Hayes, who will speak on the subject of today’s military, has served in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as in Haiti and New Orleans following the natural disasters there.

• KIWANIS MEETING: The Kiwanis Club of Troy will meet at noon at Riverside Developmental Disabilities of Miami County, 1625 Troy Sidney Road, Troy, and will learn more about the wide variety of services offered by Riverside, from birth to the end of life for people with developmental disabilities.

• DINE TO DONATE: The Tipp-Monroe Optimist Club will have a community fundraiser at Bob Evans, Tipp City, through Jan. 10 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. The Optimists will receive 15 percent of sales when participants present a flier at the time of check out, and is good for dine-in or carry-out. • KIWANIS MEETING: The Piqua Kiwanis Club will meet at noon at The Bistro Room, 1876 Commerce Drive, Piqua. “Piqua’s Economic Development, Update & Outlook” will be offered with Justin Sommers, assistant city manager and director of economic development. • CHESS CLUB: Challenge your friends or learn a new skill at the Checkmate Chess Club at 6:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month at the Troy-Miami County Public Library. The chess club is open to everyone with an interest in the game, even if you’ve never played before, and it is a great activity for the whole family. • BLOOD DRIVE: Piqua city employees and Community Blood Center will offer warm thanks to donors who support their blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Piqua City Building Commission Chambers, 201 W. Water St. It comes during the first week of January National Blood Donor Month. The blood drive is open to all community members. Everyone who registers to donate will receive a holiday fleece travel blanket. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call (800) 388-GIVE.

• HOT DOGS: The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 586, Tipp City, will offer hot dogs with toppings for $2, corn dogs for $1, French fries for $1 and cookies two for 50 cents, starting at 6 p.m. Euchre starts for the New Year at 7 p.m. for $5.

Friday

• NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will offer a Friday night movie at 301 W. Main St., Troy. The movie will be “Top Gun,” and will begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public. There will be cafe-style seating and popcorn and soft drinks.

• STEAK DINNER: A New York strip steak dinner will be offered beginning at 6 p.m. at the Troy Fish and Game.

• CHICKEN DINNER: The Pleasant Hill VFW Post 6557, 7578 W. Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls, will offer a half barbecue chicken, cheesy hash brown potatoes and green beans for $8 from 6-7:30 p.m.

• PORK CHOPS: The Sons of the American Legion, Tipp City, will prepare baked pork shop, two sides, coleslaw, dessert, roll and butter for $8 starting at 6 p.m.

Saturday

• SPAGHETTI DINNER: Troy Post No. 43 Baseball will offer an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from 3-7 p.m. in the Legion Hall, 622 S. Market St., Troy. The meal also will include salad bar, bread, dessert and drinks. Meals will be $7 for adults and $4 for children 13 and younger.

• SPAGHETTI DINNER: The Miami East Alumni will offer a spaghetti dinner from 4:30-6 p.m. at the high school, before the game. Free will donations accepted. All proceeds go to scholarships for 2016 graduates.

• LASAGNA: A lasagna dinner will be offered beginning at 6 p.m. at the Troy Fish and Game.

• FISH FRY: The Pleasant Hill VFW Post 6557, 7578 W. Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls, will offer an all- you-can-eat fish fry and smelt dinner with french fries, baked beans and applesauce for $9 from 5-7 p.m.

• PRO WRESTLING: Dynamic Championship Pro Wrestling will offer a show at 7:30 p.m. at the Miami County Fairgrounds, 650 N. County Road 25-A, Troy. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 15 and under and seniors, and part of the proceeds will be donated to local charities, such as Relay For Life, Anna’s Angels and the John J. Dugan Infusion Center at UVMC. Doors open at 7 p.m.

• KARAOKE: The American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, will host karaoke from 7 p.m. to close.

• DAR: The Piqua-Lewis Boyer Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center at 10:30 a.m. This is a joint meeting with the CAR group, Fort Pickawillany Society Children of the American Revolution. The program is the “Road to Independence.”

Sunday

• TURKEY SHOOT: A turkey shoot will be offered at the VFW Post 5436, 2220 LeFevre Road, Troy. Sign-ups will be at 10 a.m. and the shoot will be at 11 a.m. The auxiliary will offer an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8:30-11 a.m. for $6.

• BREAKFAST: Breakfast will be offered beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Troy Fish and Game.

• EUCHRE: A Euchre tournament will be offered at the Pleasant Hill VFW Post 6557, 7578 W. Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls. Sign ups will be at noon and play begins at 1 p.m. for $3 per person.

• BREAKFAST SET: The American Legion Riders, Tipp City, will prepare an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8-11 a.m. for $6. Items available will be eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, home fries, waffles, pancakes, French toast, regular toast, fruit, cinnamon rolls and juices.

Monday

• ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING: Elizabeth Township will be holding an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m., an inventory meeting following at 6:45 p.m. and a regular meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

• READING CHALLENGE: The children’s winter reading challenge at the Troy-Miami County Public Library begins at three library locations today and ends Friday, March 18. The program’s theme is “Chill Out With a Good Book.” Participants can pick up a reading log at the Troy or Pleasant Hill libraries, or on the Bookmobile, set a goal and read. • POTATO BAR: The American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, will prepare a potato bar for $3.50 or a salad bar for $3.50 or both for $6.00 starting at 6 p.m.

• NIGHT OUT: Concord Elementary’s monthly night out will be from 5:30-8 p.m. at Jumpy’s Fun Zone, 1528 W. Main St., Troy. Present a flier when paying and 30 percent of proceeds will be donated back to Concord PTO. Fliers are available at Concord Elementary School office or at the Troy-Miami County Public Library.

• HOMEWORK HELP: Are you interested in learning some fun and creative ways to help your child succeed in school? Join participants as Joy Hules, of A+ Tutoring, presents an interactive study skills program for parents at 6:30 p.m. at the Troy-Miami County Public Library, 419 W. Main St., Troy. • FISH FRY: A fish fry will be offered beginning at 6 p.m. at the Troy Fish and Game. Trivia will begin at 7:30 p.m.

• NIGHT HIKE: Brukner Nature Center will have a night hike at 7 p.m. Every month BNC Naturalists plan a nighttime adventure in to the Brukner woodlands. Exploring the BNC woods during the day can be fun but being able to explore at night is an adventure. Join a BNC naturalist as you take off into the woods. Free and open to the public.

• PUBLIC STAR GAZE: Join the Stillwater Stargazers and explore the starry night sky at 8 p.m. at Brukner Nature Center. Members will have their telescopes set up to answer questions. This program is free and open to the public, following the night hike.

• PORK CHOPS: The Pleasant Hill VFW Post 6557, 7578 W. Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls, will offer a marinated pork chop (non-marinated pork chops available upon request) dinner with baked potato and corn for $9 from 5-7 p.m.

• ANTIQUE APPRAISAL: There will be an antique appraisal event at the American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appraisals are two for $5. Lunch will be available for purchase. The post will host karaoke from 7 p.m. to close.

• SHOW CHOIR: The 33rd annual Piqua High School Show Choir Invitational will be at the Hartzell Center for the Performing Arts at Piqua High School. This year’s event will showcase over a dozen competing choirs from all over Ohio, including local favorites West Milton Center Stage and the Lehman Limelighters. Doors open at 9 a.m. The first performance is at 9:30 a.m., and seating for the evening session begins at 6:30 p.m. and finals start at 7 p.m. The day will conclude with a special 10 p.m. performance by Piqua’s own award winning show choir, “The Company” of their 2016 competition show, “Shut Up and Do It!” Admission is $8 for the day or evening session or $15 for an “all day” wristband. A wide variety of concessions will be available.

Jan. 17

• VIEW FROM THE VISTA: Brukner Nature Center will be having its View from the Vista from 2-4 p.m. Come discover Brukner Nature Center’s vista bird life and join members of the BNC Bird Club as you learn to identify our feathered friends. All levels of birders welcome and good binoculars will be available for use. Free and open to the public.
