• BREAKFAST MEETING: The Miami East class of 1964 will meet for breakfast at 8 a.m. at Holly’s Café, Casstown.

• STORY TIME: Break out the hot cocoa! That’s the theme for the two Story Times today with Milton-Union Public children’s librarian Wendy Heisey – one at 10:30 a.m. and one at 1:30 p.m. at the library. Stories, crafts, games and puppet shows are included in the activities for preschool children and their caretakers.

• HOME SCHOOL NATURE CLUB: Sign-up your home schooled student for an afternoon of discovery from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Payment is due at time of registration (cash or check). Staff naturalists have developed hands-on educational and awesome lesson plans, using live wildlife and outdoor exploration! The fee for these innovative programs is only $2.50 for BNC members and $5 for non-members. Registration and payment are due by 5 p.m. on the Monday before each program! Topic for December is “Sensing your Surroundings.”

• SLIDERS: Come to the American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, and enjoy John’s sliders, two for $2 beginning at 6 p.m.

Thursday

• HOLIDAY CONCERT: The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center’s annual holiday concert with the Oakwood Brass will be offered at 7:30 p.m. at the center. You will hear Eric Knorr and Daniel Zehringer on trumpet, Jonas Thomas on French horn Alan Keller on trombone and Tom Luckowicz on tuba.

• HIGH NOONERS: It’s a lot of holly, jolly and humor with the High Nooners’s discussion of “Christmas Bliss” by Mary Kay Andrews today from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Milton-Union Public Library. The ladies will be having a carry-in of appetizers and desserts to celebrate the season. For more information, call 937-698-5515.

• WINTER SOLSTICE EVENT: Join Brukner Nature Center staff and volunteers at 7 p.m. its Winter Solstice event “Wildlife & Wild Places,” featuring the center’s photo contest exhibit and a presentation by Ohio Division of Wildlife staff. Come meet the photo contest participants and enjoy their photographs that capture the beauty and majesty of wildlife and wild places. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and refreshments will include a variety of homemade cookies and candies, enjoyed with a mug of hot chocolate or flavored coffee. At 7:15 p.m., participants will settle into their seats for a lecture presented by the staff of the Ohio Department of Nature Resources Division of Wildlife, sharing their research and findings regarding Ohio’s black bears. Information will be given on the life history, status in Ohio, research initiatives and how you can help Ohio’s wildlife. Admission for this seasonal celebration is $5 for BNC members and $10 for non-members. All participants in BNC’s Photo Contest are admitted free of charge! All proceeds from this event and the sale of the photographs will support BNC’s own wildlife research projects. This exhibit will feature the work of both adult and youth participants. The exhibit will also be open to the public during business hours through March 13.

• BLOOD DRIVE: The Piqua Knights of St. John and Community Blood Center are asking donors to support a holiday season blood drive from 1:30-5:30 p.m. in the Great Hall, 110 S. Wayne St. Everyone who registers to donate will receive the “Buckeye Blood Donor” football T-shirt. • BOARD MEETING: The Miami Metropolitan Housing Authority Board meeting and public hearing will be at 8 a.m. at 1695 Troy-Sidney Road, Troy.

• SLOPPY JOES: The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 586, Tipp City, will serve sloppy joe sandwiches with chips for $3 and cookies will be two for 50 cents beginning at 6 p.m.

Friday

• FRIDAY DINNERS: The Covington VFW, 173 N. High St., Covington, will offer broasted chicken, New York strip steak, fish or sandwiches, from 5-8 p.m.

• STEAK DINNERS: New York strip steak dinners will be offered beginning at 6 p.m. at the Troy Fish & Game.

• REGISTRATION DUE: Registration is due for a dinner and three hours of continuing education, sponsored by The Ohio State Society of Enrolled Agents of Greater Dayton. EA’s, CPA’s, attorneys and other tax professionals are invited to attend, Richard E. Ayres, EA, ATA of Ayres Tax Seminars will be speaking on the 2015 Federal Tax Update (including Affordable Care Act). The event will be held Jan. 7 at The Crystal Room, Troy. • GOD’S TABLE: God’s Table, a community-wide free lunch, will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 325 W. Ash St. The meal will be ham, cheesy potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls and dessert.

• PORK CHOPS: The Pleasant Hill VFW Post 6557, 7578 W. Fenner Road, Ludlow Falls, will offer a marinated pork chop (non-marinated pork chops available upon request) dinner with baked potato and corn for $9 from 5-7 p.m.

• BEEF STEW: Beeft stew will be offered beginning at 6 p.m. at the Troy Fish & Game.

• WINTER PARTY: Brukner Nature Center’s Winter Party for the Wildlife will begin from 6-7 p.m. with refreshments, games, making a treat for your wild friends and visiting with the wildlife ambassador’s. From 7-8 p.m., participants will enjoy a nocturnal adventure along BNC’s trails. Admission is a gift from the wish list just for the ambassadors. Check out the wish list on the Wishes for Wildlife tree (located at the entrance of the Critter Corner) for some great gift ideas.

• OPEN HOUSE: The city of Tipp City will host an open house and Electric Utility Center Building dedication beginning at 10 a.m. The building dedication will begin at 10 a.m. and the open house will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon. A quorum of the members of city council may be present.

• KARAOKE: The American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, will host karaoke from 7 p.m. to close.

Sunday

• VIEW FROM THE VISTA: Brukner Nature Center will offer View from the Vista from 2-4 p.m. Come discover Brukner Nature Center’s vista bird life and join members of the BNC Bird Club as you learn to identify our feathered friends!. All levels of birders welcome and good binoculars are available for use. Free and open to the public.

• HOLIDAY CONCERT: Tippecanoe Community Band will present a free concert in the sanctuary of Piqua’s Greene Street United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. at 415 W. Greene St., Piqua. The 40-member concert band is celebrating 35 years under the direction of its founder, Gail Ahmed. “Sounds of the Christmas Season” is a blend of sacred favorites, Nutcracker, Christmas Suites and sing-alongs that will be enjoyable for all ages. Off-street parking and handicapped entrance is located along Caldwell Street on the east side of the Greene Street United Methodist Church in Piqua. For more information, call 335-1178.

• BREAKFAST: The American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, will prepare an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 – 11 a.m. for $6. Items available will be eggs, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes, waffles, French toast, regular toast, home fries, cinnamon rolls, fruit and juices.

Dec. 21

• CRAFTY LISTENERS: The Crafty Listeners gather from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Milton-Union Public Library in West Milton. This group of women listen to an audio book while working on joint and individual craft projects. Both experienced crafters and those wanting to learn are welcome.

• PRESCHOOL WINTER VACATION CAMP: Need a few hours for some last minute shopping? Sign your child up for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon, of exploration and fill their new found free time with fun and learning. Be sure to dress the kids for the weather as they may spend time outside. The fee for this camp is $10 for BNC members; $15 for non-members. This camp is for preschoolers 3-5 years old and potty-trained. Payment is due at time of registration (cash or check). Final deadline for registration is Friday, Dec. 18.

• REUBENS: The American Legion Post 586, Tipp City, will offer a reuben sandwich with chips and dill pickle for $5 starting at 6 p.m.

Dec. 22

• TINY TOTS: Tiny Tots meets from 1-1:30 p.m. at the Milton-Union Public Library in West Milton. This is an interactive opportunity for children from birth to 4-years-old and their caretakers to hear stories, play games, sing songs, and do other activities with children’s librarian Wendy Heisey.

• BLOOD DRIVE: Voss Honda — Tipp City and Community Blood Center will offer warm thanks to donors who support their Christmas week blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The CBC Bloodmobile will be at 155 S. Garber Drive. Everyone who registers to donate will receive a holiday fleece travel blanket. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call (800) 388-GIVE.

Dec. 25
