To the Editor:
In Bethany J. Royer’s recent report on the (Piqua) board of education’s June 2 discussion of the relocation options, there were a few points omitted Piqua readers may want to know. Should a new bus facility need to be built the estimated cost is between $650,000-750,000. The current bus facility at the Fry Building occupies a large amount of the square footage of the rental agreement in proportion to the total rental lease. Should the board offices move to Nicklin or the bank building, the bus space rental fee would remain a line item. The rental fee was given at $3 per square foot, which is below market value. One opinion given at that meeting was to form a study panel to decide what location would be best once the three new school buildings were completed and the selling some of the old properties to provide monies toward that decision..
Whether it is renting or refurbishing to own the board office, please keep in mind the tax base the board has to work within its given budget. Please contact a current board member to weigh in with your opinion. Those persons are Andy Hite, Lori Webster, Bob Luby, Frank Patrizio Jr., and Steve Greggerson.
The topic is complicated but common sense and consensus can prevail if we strive to provide the best to our community and our students.
