PIQUA — What does estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone have in common? They are hormones (Along with other factors such as the adrenal and thyroid glands) that brought Lyn Hogrefe to found the Happy Hormone Cottage five years ago.
Hogrefe’s company, recently established at the Piqua Consulting and Compounding Lab at 649 W. High Street, helps women to naturally balance their hormone levels so as to achieve wellness through Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy or BHRT.
The Happy Hormone Cottage is also located in Kettering, Vandalia, Mason, and Crestview Hills, Ky. with Hogrefe (Also CEO) referring to the growing business as the “Little cottage that could” citing hormones are to women as water is to plants, with hormone depletion beginning as early as the age of 35.
“It is all downhill from there,” said Hogrefe who states women need to own their health journey, one she began ten years ago when she became a health advocate for women. She educates, speaks, and has even written and published a book on women’s health (Own Your Journey to Optimal Hormone Balance) with her growing company providing a safe environment to talk about health concerns with Happy Hormone Cottage practitioners.
“We are not really a healthy population,” explained Hogrefe on women’s health with doctors prescribing medications such as anti-depressants and sleep aids that are made for the masses (one size fits most) rather than meeting the particular needs of the individual.
Not that Hogrefe is against doctors, making it clear she loves her doctor and her brother-in-law is a doctor, too.
“Doctors are great, but for me it wasn’t enough,” said Hogrefe who provides a service that has since exploded as women learn about what they need to get “their hormone tanks refilled” and travel from as far away as Texas and Florida to meet with Happy Hormone Cottage practitioners.
At 58, Hogrefe believes in leading by example and fixing the cause rather than just applying band-aid solutions.
“I don’t want to do nothing, I want to be proactive with my health. I deserve better,” said Hogrefe. “Today is the best day you are going to have, if you don’t do anything.”
According to the company’s press release, more than 5,000 women have questioned traditional doctors’ diagnoses about their aging symptoms and been tested and treated by embracing Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) through Happy Hormone Cottage.
Women can attend a free initial consultation at any of the five Happy Hormone Cottages and have their hormone levels tested. A compounded, personalized prescription of hormone creams containing biestrogen, progesterone and testosterone will then be created for each woman based on her hormone needs after meeting with a nurse practitioner.
