TROY — The commission meeting on Thursday focused heavily on approvals and discussing future plans for the county.

Regan Snider from the transit department shared that the new county vehicles were ordered, with delivery estimates that would be shared later on in the afternoon Thursday. The vehicles are to be arriving in November or December, which she said is a typical timeframe.

“There’s no particular lag, although sometimes there is a little bit of a delay,” Snider said.

Snider shared that her office has received a few requests from Miami County residents looking for a way to travel to Shelby County for employment opportunities. The objective is to connect with Shelby County’s transit system and to be able to offer any more costs to the county.

The commissioners decided that it would be worth looking into.

Brent Knackstedt from the West Central Juvenile Rehabilitation Center updated the commission on the renovations that the center needs to do. Currently, the air compressor, furniture, carpet, tiling and painting need replaced.

“Our outstanding projects are resurfacing the gym floor and to redo the concrete landing dock in the back,” Knackstedt said.

He said that he is trying to keep under $50,000, with a balance that is $99,000.

In other business, the commissioners authorized the auditor/IT Department to purchase items from several vendors to replace network equipment that was damaged from a lightning strike that happened during the storm on Aug. 2.

The commissioners also accepted a quote from Dell and authorized the auditor/IT Department to purchase equipment to add an identical server and data storage group to the County Road 25-A complex.

Oglesby Construction Inc. of Norwalk was awarded the bid and agreement for the 2014 Center Line and Edge Striping & Center Line Layout Program. A contract with Wagner Paving of Laura was authorized for the 2014 Chip Seal and Fog Seal Program.

The date of resignation for Tamara Williams, child support case manager with the Department of Jobs and Family Services, was amended from Aug. 1 to July 28.

Jill Sherman’s resignation as eligibility referral specialist I with the same department was accepted with Aug. 22 being her last day. Her position was then authorized to be labeled vacant.

The vision service plan was approved for county employees to be eligible for a voluntary payroll deduction plan. The commissioners authorized and signed a renewal contract with Superior Dental Inc. to provide dental care benefits to enrolled Miami County employees and their eligible dependents.
