TROY — A repeat sex offender who came to the attention of an Internet task force aimed at catching people who download child pornography is going back to prison — less than a year after his release from prison for similar sex convictions.
Brian K. Young, 33, of Piqua, was sentenced to four years in prison Monday in common pleas court after he entered pleas of no contest and was found guilty of seven counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, third-degree felonies.
Green, a registered sex offender, was labeled as a tier II sex offender, which requires him to register as a sex offender routinely with the sheriff’s office in the county where he resides, works or goes to school for the next 25 years.
Following his release from prison Young will serve five years of mandatory post-release control.
According to the Piqua Police Department, Young was convicted of two sex-related felonies in the past. In 2005 Young was convicted of unlawful sexual conduct involving a minor and two years later was convicted of pandering obscenity involving a minor.
Young was released from the Madison Correctional Facility last year and had been out for only a short time before his online activity caught the attention of a detective with the Troy Police Department who is also a member of the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Authorities said Young was downloading “obscene materials involving children” via the Internet, which subsequently led to the Piqua Police Department executing a search warrant at Young’s residence last February where computer materials that belonged to Young were seized.
Piqua police Deputy Chief Tom Christy said Young allegedly downloaded the pornographic materials through an Internet file-sharing website by using someone else’s unsecured home computer network.
None of the materials recovered from Young’s computer depicted local children.
