GREENVILLE - For nearly 20 years part of downtown Greenville’s holiday decorations has included the nativity scene that sits on the north end of the traffic circle. On Christmas day a report came in that something was missing, the baby Jesus.
The community donated funding for the figures that were purchased in Gatlinburg, Tenn. by local pastor Herschel Fee and his wife Barbara. Members of the Fee’s church family at the Lighthouse Christian Center in Greenville built the housing trailer that the nativity scene sits in. The decorations are stored at the church during the year and brought to the downtown Greenville destination when the city begins its holiday decorating.
“The nativity scene belongs to the community. We don’t want to file any charges, just want the figures returned,” Barbara Fee told The Daily Advocate.
Besides the baby Jesus, the manger and two shepherds were also removed sometime Tuesday or Wednesday. It is asked that anyone that has or knows where the figures are, to please bring them to the Greenville City building or leave a message at the Lighthouse Christian Center for Barbara Fee at 937-548-7464. No questions will be asked.
