If you are wondering if the Rehab Center may be what you need, your first step is to contact the Center to arrange a tour. When you see the facility, you will learn about the services the Center offers and will discuss how the Center may help you. Your next step is to schedule an initial evaluation. The evaluation takes about 2 hours. During the evaluation, you will be asked to perform a number of activities that will assess your motor abilities, visual abilities, cognitive abilities and speech abilities. Based on the evaluation outcome, an individualized care plan will be prepared. The care plan will outline the specific activities that are unique for your particular needs.
Within about 10 days after the evaluation, the individual will receive the evaluation report and your recommended Care Plan. Barb, the Center’s scheduler will then contact you to answer any questions and coordinate the implementing your Care Plan. Because each program is designed based on that individual’s needs, clients may not do all the services offered at the Rehabilitation Center for Neurological Development.
The first time a client comes to the Center, they may be a little nervous for that initial day. The Center staff are very welcoming and after a few short minutes that fear is washed away. If the client arrives a few minutes before their scheduled appointment, they may be asked to wait in the Center’s kitchen. Usually, there are other family members waiting. The Center’s kitchen tends to be the ‘support’ room for our clients. Parents might be waiting on a child to finish therapies and everyone seems to enjoy conversation/support while waiting. It does not take long to make new friends.
A staff member will take the client to the main therapy room to carry-out the recommended Care Plan activities. and assist the client with the various activities identified on their individualized program. Not only is it important to do those movements, it is important to do them correctly. Each staff member pays close attention to each client and provides instruction as to how each movement needs to be done.
Just a few testimonies:
I felt my husband was at a plateau with his recovery after brain surgery. Now I feel like he has hope again for a better recovery. I have seen significant improvement in his speech. His balance has improved. He is not as irritable. He looks forward to his sessions and seeing the friends he has made here.
Since starting your program, fear and anxiety have been noticeably reduced. She is not as shy in social situations. She has given up her bedtime ritual of being tucked in tight and is sleeping in a twin bed. (She had been afraid.) She is now swinging and sliding-not terrified of playground equipment, hairdryers, hand dryers, vibrating toothbrushes etc. Her meltdowns are half to three-quarters less often. Clothing issues have calmed down somewhat also. She will now wear flip flops/shoes without backs that used to be frustrating/angering for her. I’ve noticed many positive changes. Life has been more enjoyable/less stressful for the entire family.
