MIAMI COUNTY — On Monday, a 19-year-old Troy man entered a guilty plea to an reduced charge of attempted rape in Miami County Common Pleas Court.
Nicholas Fergerson, 19, of Troy, entered a plea of guilty to one count of second-degree felony attempted rape with a specification that the victim, a female, was under the age of 13.
Fergerson was originally charged with first-degree felony rape by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
Fergerson could be sentenced from five to 25 years in prison and be fined up to $15,000.
The incident took place at the victim’s grandmother’s home in Casstown on June 22. At the time of the incident, Fergerson had stayed overnight at the home with his girlfriend, who is the victim’s 19-year-old aunt.
The victim’s grandmother found the child and Fergerson both awake, but in separate rooms the morning of the incident. The victim told the grandmother that Fergerson had laid behind her on the couch and sexually assaulted her that morning.
Fergerson’s bond was continued at $500,000. He remains in Miami County Jail.
He will be sentenced on Nov. 2.
