TROY — Market On The Miami, the local Troy Area Indoor Farmer’s Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Tin Roof Restaurant in Troy located in Treasure Island Park in Troy. “

The market is a collaboration of local vendors who produce locally grown, homemade cottage foods, local

non cottage foods and artisan items. The indoor market is held on the second and the fourth Saturdays of

the month through May.

The featured vendor for the Feb. 8 market will be Virgil’s Fine Soaps a local soap maker celebrating

their ninth year in business this month.

When Virgil and Katie Schroeder retired, their adult children had

an idea for a home-based business centered around what the family used to do for fun when they were children — making soap. They decided why not take that interest and build it

into a brand. The family created a theme for each bar of soap they developed based on a story about growing

up with Virgil.

Fisherman’s Friend was the first soap since fishing was one of their favorite things to

do with their dad and grandpa — they fished but never had a bar of soap to wash up with.

Then there was Animal Lover’s Lavender Rose soap since Virgil was always feeding and caring for stray

animals. Next came Gardener’s Green because Virgil and the kids always had a garden.

This was followed by Cook’s Companion, Fresh Holiday Pine, Mom’s Apple Pie, Tinglemint and Man Soap.

Several years ago Katie decided to add sunflower seed oil-based lotions to their product line.

The soaps and lotions are made in their Tipp City home in the kitchen with cosmetic grade premium-

plant based ingredients. They do not use skin drying petroleum or alcohols instead they add aloe and

Vitamin E to nourish the skin along with pumice and with luffa to exfoliate. The lotions are made with

sunflower seed oil naturally rich in Vitamin E complimented with aloe. Many of their patron appreciate

that their products feature essential oils, top quality fragrance oils and natural colors.

Also available at the Feb. 8 market will be other local foods including homemade

jams, jellies, fruit butters, baked goods, gourmet roasted coffee, soaps, herbal teas and seasoning mixes,

pet treats, candy, popcorn, honey, maple syrup, sorghum, spelt flour, hot sauce, noodles and fruits and

vegetables in season. Market vendors also will offer original and reproduction art items made by local

artisans, including hand thrown ceramics, jewelry, hand turned wood items, one-of-a-kind slate, glass and

wood painted items, books by local authors, along with dyed and painted fabric items.
