Your exterior or curb appeal makes your first lasting impression on the buyers. Keep the lawn trimmed and edged. Weed and cultivate flower gardens. Add a bit of bright color with seasonal flowers. Trim shrubs and eliminate dead trees or branches.

Pick up any debris, toys and lawn equipment. Repair any fences and gates. Give them a fresh coat of paint or stain. Don’t forget to put a fresh coat of paint or stain on your front door, too. You may want to hang an eye catching wreath on your front door.

Keep the exterior clean and attractive. Consider having it power washed and paint any areas that are peeling. Clean or paint the shutters. Replace any cracked windows or torn screens. Be sure your doorbell works.

Wash down the mailbox and porch light. Sweep the porch. Use your porch furniture to create an inviting space to watch the world go by. Let the buyer imagine themselves sitting there enjoying the view.

Inside, wash the windows and sills until they are sparkling clean. Launder your curtains and drapes. Shampoo your carpet and wax the floors.

Repair loose doorknobs, sticking doors and windows, warped kitchen drawers and cabinet doors. Replace discolored or cracked light switch and electrical outlet plates.

Bathrooms should always be sparkling clean with no stains or mildew. Repair the caulking in tubs and showers.

Clear the ashes out of the fireplace and be sure to clean the fireplace tools.

Always take the trash out before showings. Make sure the kitty litter is always clean.

Consider how you choose fruit at your grocery. If you have several apples to choose from that are all the same price and the same size, you’re probably going to choose the ones that are the shiniest and look the best. Make your home the beautiful, shinning apple that the buyers will pick.
