Tipp resident named assistant medical director

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) today announced the appointment of Tipp City resident Justin J. Trevino, M.D., as assistant medical director.

He joins medical director Mark Hurst, M.D. on the cabinet-level agency’s hospital services executive leadership team.

“Dr. Trevino brings a level of expertise that will provide immeasurable benefits to Ohioans seeking treatment for a mental illness or addiction,” said OhioMHAS Director Tracy Plouck. “We’re thrilled that he is joining our hospital leadership team and look forward to his contributions.”

Dr. Trevino has worked in the fields of psychiatry and addictions for 25 years, providing service in both clinical and administrative roles. He is licensed by the State Medical Board of Ohio and certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. Dr. Trevino currently serves as chief clinical officer – director of clinical services at Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare in Columbus — a position he will continue to hold on a part-time basis. In his new role, Dr. Trevino will split time between the hospital and OhioMHAS’ central office, providing oversight and policy recommendations on everything from hospital safety and electronic health records development to community mental health and addiction treatment services.

“Dr. Trevino’s rich experience in psychiatry and addiction psychiatry along with his personal commitment to up-to-date and compassionate treatment will serve the patients, families and communities affected by mental illness and addictions in our state very well,” said Dr. Hurst.

Dr. Trevino is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and was recognized as an Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) Champion by the Ohio Substance Abuse and Mental Illness Coordinating Center of Excellence in 2007. He is an adjunct professor for The Ohio State University Department of Psychiatry and a Clinical Associate Professor for the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.

A lifelong resident of Ohio, Dr. Trevino earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Trinity University and graduated medical school from Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton. He trained as a resident in psychiatry at the Institute of Living Hospital in Hartford, Conn. for two years, and completed residency training in the Wright State University Department of Psychiatry Residency Program.
