Premier Health Plan receives 4-star rating


DAYTON — Premier Health Plan, a local health insurance provider in Southwest Ohio, has announced that its Medicare Advantage plan received an overall four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The components that make up Premier Health Plan’s overall rating include:

• five-star ratings for care coordination and health care quality;

• four-star ratings for customer service, providing appointments and care quickly, providing prescriptions quickly, and ensuring that needed care is provided.

“This milestone is a testament to our commitment to improving the health of the communities we serve, and to the hard work of our broad network of physicians, hospitals and other health care providers,” said Tom Duncan, chief executive officer, Premier Health Plan.

In 2015 and 2016, only a small percentage of plans that achieved at least four stars overall had been in business for less than five years. Premier Health Plan is in its third year of operation and in its first year of eligibility for a CMS star rating.

It is validation of our unique population health model of care for the communities we serve.”

Enrollment in Medicare Advantage plans runs through Dec. 7.

The Premier Medicare Advantage plan is underwritten by Premier Health Insuring Corp., which does business under the name Premier Health Plan.

CMS uses a five-star quality rating system to measure Medicare beneficiaries’ experience with their health plans and the health care system. The rating system helps consumers compare Medicare Advantage plans more easily and identifies the plan’s quality and performance for the types of services each plan offers. The ratings are calculated each year and can change from one year to the next.
