Museums plan joint open house
TROY — The Overfield Tavern Museum and the Museum of Troy History will combine its open houses from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 13. These events are free and open to the public. The museums are located across from each other on Water Street at the Mulberry Street intersection.
The Overfield Tavern Museum building was constructed of logs between 1803 and 1808 and the rooms are accurately furnished in this time period. The tavern served many purposes including as the Miami County Courthouse from 1808 to 1811. There will be interpretive guides in period clothing to provide a tour the museum.
The Museum of Troy History is located in a brick home built in 1847 by John Kitchen and will showcase its Victorian Parlor. The 1900 Parlour Grand Piano will be played by various pianists of all ages. This museum also features an 1860 bedroom and foyer along with a 1920 kitchen and a mockup of a one room school house.
Punch and homemade refreshments will be served.
YMCA offers holiday mini session
MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA will be offering a variety of land and water group fitness classes during the holiday season. The session dates will extend from December 14, 2015 through January 3, 2016; registration begins Monday, December 7.
A variety of classes will be offered including: yoga, cycling, aqua power, BARRE, tabata, Zumba, and more. The holiday mini session schedule can be picked up from either Miami County YMCA location or on their website at www.miamicountyymca.net.

FFA Member of the Month named
CASSTOWN — The December 2015 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Member of the Month is Emily Thimmes.
She is the daughter of Robert and Kim Thimmes of Piqua. She is a sophomore and second year member of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter.
Thimmes recently participated in the district job interview Career Development where she placed 5th in her division. Additionally, she was a member of the District Food Science and Technology Career Development Event team that placed 4th out over more than 50 teams. Emily helped with the March of Dimes Princess For A Day fundraiser, attended the Ohio State University tour, and sold $650 worth of fruit in the recent FFA fundraiser. Her Supervised Agricultural Experience program consists of raising and marketing herb plants that she markets at the local farmers market.
Every month of the school year the Miami East-MVCTC FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities. If selected, the member will be recognized at the monthly FFA meeting, have their picture displayed in the Miami East Ag Room, and will receive a special accolade in celebration of their accomplishment.
