PIQUA — The Piqua High School Band Department and the Piqua Junior High Band announce the annual Spring Concert on Monday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hartzell Center for the Performing Arts. The bands are under the direction of Mitch Mahaney.
The Piqua Junior High Jazz Band will lead off the program with “Final Countdown” arranged by Berry and “Minnie the Moocher” arranged by Ford, among others. The jazz band meets every day.
The Piqua Junior High Band will take the stage and play four numbers, “Cyclone” by Oare, “Sidetracked” by Conaway, “Conundrum” by Sheldon and “Awake the Iron,” a Spanish battle cry, by Watson.
“Audio Hype,” the jazz combo for the Piqua Show Choir, “The Company,” will lead off the high school program with “Indigo Hippo” by Collins-Dowden featuring student soloist Greg Reyes on tenor sax. That will be followed by “Land of Make Believe” by Lopez and featuring Mandy Legget, trumpet and Alycia Davidson, alto sax. Alycia Davidson will return as soloist for “I Wanna Be Like You” from Jungle Book and written for Louis Prima. “In the Stone” by Earth, Wind and Fire will conclude the jazz combo’s portion of the concert. “Audio Hype” is a class that meets every day.
The Symphonic Band will take the stage next and present “Music from Carmina Burana” arranged by Bocook, and “Repercussions” by Smith. Duane Bachman is an invited guest narrator for the patriotic tribute “Each Time You Tell Their Story” by Hazo. The Symphonic Band will conclude the concert with
“Foundry.” The Symphonic Band meets every day.
