Order of George noms sought
PIQUA — The Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for the next recipient of the Order of George Award. This award is presented annually to a Piqua resident who has been active in volunteer and community service.
The nominee recipient could be a deserving co-worker, relative, friend or neighbor. We all know someone who always steps up to the plate, always asks, “What can I do?” or “How can I help?”
The application requires information about the person’s volunteer/community accomplishments with each organization in which they are or were involved. It also asks for any awards or honors received and offices held within each organization.
Applications are available at the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce, 326 N. Main St., or online at www.piquaareachamber.com. The deadline for turning in the completed application is 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23.

Head Start applications being taken
MIAMI COUNTY — Kids Learning Place is taking applications for the 2015-16 school year for preschoolers. There are a few spaces still available for children to enroll in the classrooms and the home visiting program.
Head Start, a federally funded comprehensive program, is one no-cost option for preschool education at Kids Learning Place. The eligibility for this preschool program is: a child must be between 3-5 years old and the family must meet federal income guidelines. The program also provides services to children who are in foster care or homeless. The program allocates 10 percent of the slots for children with diagnosed special needs also.
Kids Learning Place centers in Piqua, Troy, and West Milton have earned multiple stars in the “Step Up To Quality” award from the State of Ohio. This award recognizes early childhood programs that exceed licensing standards. Kids Learning Place classrooms place a major focus on school readiness and works to provide every child with a positive education experience to get them ready for kindergarten. We have degreed teachers in every classroom, a research based curriculum, do developmental testing throughout the year and value and encourage parent participation.

Quarter auction at KOC
PIQUA — Piqua Parents as Teachers will hold their semi-annual quarter auction from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Knights of Columbus, 204 W. Ash St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the auction starts promptly at 7. Guests must be 18 and over.
Items will include gift cards, jewelry, gift baskets and more. Please bring your own quarters. Thirty dollars will allow you to bid on nearly everything. All of the proceeds will benefit Piqua Parents as Teachers.
Tickets are $2, available at Springcreek Primary School and Readmore’s Hallmark, 430 N. Main St., Piqua. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
Nominate Business Person of Year
PIQUA — The Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for nominations for Business Person of the Year for 2015. Criteria includes:
• Being a member of the Chamber
• Business is located within the 45356 zip code
• Being actively involved with the enhancement of the city of Piqua, which can include their business, community and/or the Chamber
• Being active in the betterment of the business community
• Being recognized as a leader in the community
• Being successful in their chosen profession
Applications can be found at piquaareachamber.com under the Community Initiatives tab, or by visiting the chamber office. Individuals must also submit a letter of nomination (minimum two-page, typed, double-spaced) with the application discussing the above criteria. Applications and letters of nomination must be returned to the Piqua Area Chamber, 326 N. Main St. or P.O. Box 1142, Piqua, OH by no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30.
