Students fare well in competition
CASSTOWN — Several members of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter recently competed in the District 5 FFA Job Interview Career Development Event held at Botkins High School.
The Job Interview Contest consists of designing a resume and cover letter, completing a job application, performing an interview, and composing a typed follow-up thank you note.
Katie Bodenmiller competed in the Division 4 (senior year) interview competition. She placed second in the district. She earned a plaque sponsored by the District 5 FFA chapters. There were 24 participants.
Emily Thimmes competed in the Division 3 (junior year) interview competition. She placed 13th in the district. There were 21 participants.
Liza Bair competed in the Division 2 (sophomore year) contest and placed seventh in the district. There were 22 participants.
Megan Honeyman competed in the Division 1 (freshman year) contest and placed 10th in the district. There were 18 participants.
FFA sponsors coloring contest
CASSTOWN — The Agricultural Advocacy Committee of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter recently sponsored a coloring contest at Miami East Elementary.
Members of the Ag Advocacty Committee presented facts in a slideshow of the turkey industry. Then the students in first-grade were given a farm picture to color. FFA members evaluated the pictures and awarded first place to each homeroom. The results are as follows:

Each student participating received a pencil and a farming-related sicker. The first place picture in each homeroom was awarded a collectable FFA bear. This contest is an annual event.
Members of the Agricultural Adovacy Committee involved in the project were Brandi Abner, Kyle Baker, Blaine Brokschmidt, Anastasia Kilbourne, Kirsten Overholser, and Blake Snyder.
MINSTER — The Miami East-MVCTC FFA Food Science and Technology Team recently competed in the District 5 Contests hosted by Minster High School.
Food Science and Technology Contest contestants included Weston Hodge, Emily Thimmes, Katie Bodenmiller, Dylan Hahn, Emma Younce, Sidney Pelfrey, Rachael Hodge, Alex DiNardo, Kami Martin, Alex Isbrandt, Jacob Rife, Makenzie Comer, Alyssa Westgerdes, Zach Kronenberger, Carly Gump, Colton Kowalak, Couy Moreland, Austin Niswonger, Rachel Davis, and Cameron Coomes.
Miami East students placed second out of 38 teams. The highest placing individuals from Miami East was Emma Linn, who third overall in the contest. There were more than 150 individuals in the contest.
Best of luck to Emma Linn, Katie Bodenmiller, Weston Hodge, and Emily Thimmes as they compete in the State Food Science and Technology Career Development Event in December at The Ohio State University.
During the contest the team members were asked to complete a product development scenario in which they calculated the nutritional facts for a new food product and design a new package. Also they completed an aroma identification section, responded to customer inquiry scenarios, identified sanitation errors in the food industry and common equipment used in a food production facility, and completed a taste sensory test and flavor identification.
