Stewart


Stewart graduates basic training

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — U.S. Air Force Reserve Airman Melinda L. Stewart graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic welfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Stewart is the daughter of William and Melody Stewart of Piqua, niece of Donna Bellotti of Troy, and Lamont Stewart of Vandalia, and granddaughter of Beverly and Lee Hawk and Patsy Stewart, all of Vandalia. She is also the sister of April Stewart.

The airman graduated in 2008 from Troy Christian High School, Troy.

Brining to turn 90

GREENVILLE — The family of Marguerite (Zechar) Brining would like to honor her with a card shower in celebrating her 90th birthday on July 8.

Coffee with Master Gardeners set

TROY — The sixth session in the Coffee with the Master Gardener Series being offered by OSU Extension Miami County Master Gardeners will take place on July 1 beginning at 10 a.m. This series is geared towards backyard gardeners and horticulture enthusiasts alike. July’s session will feature Pete Holmes, Miami County Master Gardener volunteer, as he discusses why native plants are essential anchors in the biodiversity of our landscapes, forests and other natural areas. Learn what the plants are, why they are important and what you can do to make a positive impact in our community.

The session will be held at the Monroe Township Meeting Hall on the lower level at 4 E. Main St., Tipp City, and will run from 10-11:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required for refreshments, handouts and space. The cost is $10 per person. Registration deadline is June 29, and make checks payable to OSU Extension. You may mail form and payment to OSU Extension, 201 W. Main St, Troy, OH 45373, or pay by cash or credit card in the office or over the phone.

Hobart to sponsor car show

TROY — Hobart Corporation will be hosting its Second annual Car Show on Saturday July 16, to benefit The American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

The event will start at noon and run until 3 p.m. The gates will open at 10 a.m. for registration and run until 2 p.m.

In 2015, Hobart Corporation hosted their first car show at the 701 S. Ridge Ave. location for ACS Relay for Life. They had a nice turnout even though the weather did not cooperate completely. This year, they have scheduled a rain date for Sunday July 17, at the same times.

The event is open to all makes and models of vehicles. There will be dash plaques given to the first 50 registered vehicles and trophies will be given for Best of Show, Peoples Choice, Best GM Vehicle, Best Ford Vehicle, Best Mopar, Most Original, The Hobart Choice and the Oldest Car. All trophies and awards will be given at 3 p.m.

There will be a $10 entry fee for all show vehicles. DJ Ken Ryan will be playing all of the great oldies throughout the day and occasionally there will be trivia questions for prizes also. Door prizes, raffles, goody bags andmore will be part of the day.

There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, snow cones, sodas, and water available.

The car show will be held once again this year at the Corporate Headquarters of Hobart, 701 S. Ridge Ave., Troy. There will be plenty of parking for spectators as well as the show vehicles.
