Beagle to address PERI

PIQUA — The Miami County Chapter of Ohio Public Employee Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 248 Wood St. (Enter parking lot from Downing Street.) The peaker will be Bill Beagle, Ohio senator from the 5th District.

This meeting is open to any retired or currently employed Ohio public employee.

Lunch is $10, payable at the door. Reservations are needed before Thursday, May 26. To make a reservation, please call Beth at (937) 335-2771.

Zumba cards available

PIQUA — Zumba is in full swing at the YWCA Piqua for participants ages 15 years and older. Class members can purchase a punch card on sale from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 23, through Thursday, May 26.

Sessions are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. Students can drop in for class as their schedules permit. New participants are always welcome to come in and give it a try.

Film screening planned

PIQUA — The YWCA Focus on Films will feature an award-winning movie on Tuesday, May 24, from 1-4 p.m. facilitated by Gretchen Roeth. Due to licensing restrictions, the YWCA is not permitted to publish the title of the film.

The movie is adapted from Andrea Levy’s best-selling, award-winning novel which explores the lives of two couples — one Jamaican, the other English. Their worlds intertwine in post-World War II Britain at a turning point in the long relationship between the two countries. Naomie Harris, David Oyelowo, Ruth Wilson and Benedict Cumberbatch star.

There is no fee and membership is not required; however, pre-registration is requested.

Covington sets summer hours

COVINGTON — Summer office hours for Covington Elementary School are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The office will be open through May 31, then closed for the summer. The office is tentatively scheduled to reopen Monday, Aug. 8.

Class lists will be posted on Thursday, Aug. 18, in the front entrance of the new K-8 building. School fees may be sent in with the students the first week of school or paid during Open House.

Students new to the Covington school district need to call the elementary office at (937) 473-2252 prior to May 31, or after Aug. 8, to schedule an appointment to register new students. Documentation needed to register new students includes certified birth certificate, social security number, proof of residency, current immunization records, legal custodial records (if applicable), most recent report cards, IEP’s (if applicable), and photo ID of parent/guardian registering student(s). All documents must be provided at the time of registration.

Open house will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23. School begins Wednesday, Aug. 24, for grades K-6.
