Paul and Colleen Carroll of the Village of Del Mar in Lady Lake, The Villages, Fla., formerly of Piqua, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary March 3.
They were married March 3, 1944, in Piqua. Mr. Carroll was drafted into the Army soon after and left for Japan. He is now retired from Champion International Paper Co.
Mrs. Carroll owned and operated a ceramic shop until retiring.
The couple are parents to five children, Bonnie Paulette Dooley of Bellefontaine, Kathy Ann Schrimpf of Springfield, June Marie Whitehead of Denver, Colo., Paul Daniel Carroll of Decatur, Ala., and John David Carroll, who makes his home with his parents in Florida.
The couple celebrated their anniversary on March 3, complete with a wedding cake, red roses and a special dinner. The height of the celebration was the giving of a memory quilt to the couple, which was made by all their children. The quilt consists of screen-painted pictures of the past surrounded by a field of stars on a white background, and was a surprise gift. The couple also enjoyed receiving a congratulatory letter from President Barack Obama in honor of their 70th anniversary.
